Travis ... GoJo will take poop off the boy's butt better than the wipes ... plus it will help moisturize and prevent diaper rash. Might as well get him off to a good start ... bein' a "motor head". :D

Les

I'll guess he means the non-grit gojo...

Let's go into the Way-back Machine, Sherman.....

Gahh..... figuring out pin-outs for an RS232 connection. Fortunately, this is something that I only do every couple of years now. All for a 2400baud modem connection.

I did that... to talk to a CNC machine with a tape drive last summer! :gee:

Heading down to Liberty Pull a Part in E-ville tomorrow to find a hood and grille for the Blazer. I'll scope out any XJs as well and report back. Most likely I'll just up wandering the yard most of the afternoon :D

Yes! Please do!

Jim and I have been aiming to get over there for the past 3-4 years and just haven't done it. I'm curious as to what they have.

You said tape drive...

You said tape drive...
Yeah, so? Tapes are still probably the best backup method going (but not realistic for the home user.)

Nice justification of an ancient data system :D

I remember my professor saying that same thing a few years back when I was a computer tech major.

<grin> Figured the 2400 baud rate would raise some eyebrows.

It's for a TAP paging connection. Due to the small payload/transaction (less than a couple of hundred characters in total generally,) it's actually faster to use a low speed, fast sync'ing modem connection than a high speed, long train time connection.

As far as tape goes, we spin a lot of LTO2 tape here, and starting on LTO3 (up to 800gb per cartridge.) And with the tape cycle rotation, we've probably in excess of a petabyte just in tape storage.

:D nuff said.

<grin> You're not all that far off on that 1988 comment. The modems in use are Multitech 28.8 jobbers, probably manufactured around 1992 to 1994 or so.

I have a couple of 2,400' reels of 9 track tape at home, just for posterity. No way to read them, though.

Ah Man eight tracks. My first paycheck , I went and bought one of those red eight track players at K-Mart. I wanted a blue one but they were out of stock. That was a long time ago...

I suddenly feel old, but with a smile for the memory....

Picked up a hood, grille and headlight assembly at Liberty for $75. Not bad IMO, but I had to scour the SUV section three times to find a hood that was decent.

Decent selection, not a lot of XJs, and the good stuff seems to be gone quick. Also, the vehicles tend to be annihilated with few good parts. Overall a good place to spend a day wandering, but if you need body panels or interior stuff, probably not the best.

Pretty good Price. Trail Damage or accident?
