Important

I can do a search and I've asked before...but I wanna know...

where are you folks mounting your cb antennas on your full bodied xjs and not knocking them off or breaking them.

i need to get a proven mount together for my baby jeep, i also need to install a ham (shortwave? whatever we are using for our race radios) antenna on it but I think I just might do that one in magnetic form for portability for now.

Lucky for me JCR makes a little tab for the antenna on their bumpers. :D I have one of those firestik mounts and an 18-ish foot cable if your interested Mac.

i made this mount

its only rubbed against one tree and one part of the trail (i guess that's what you would call it) both times i just bent it back and it seems to be fine

That's basically what I have but mine is a bit more ghetto.

What I'll do next time - think pull it in from there till it's behind the hatch, and up till it's over the light, and then cut the hatch as necessary to clear the antenna and give some room for the antenna to flap around. I'm still not sure if it's even a good idea but it's what I have in mind.

Had one of those taillight mounts on my '91, lasted 2 trail runs. The way you wheel Mac, I'd advise against it. Are you going to run a rear tire carrier? I made a quick and simple mount for mine on the rear swingout.

If no swingout, there is always the roof. If I had it to do over again I would just get a Wilson roof mount and run a 12-18" whip. That setup will net you the best reception anyway. IIRC Hale has his set up like this.

Wilson gumdrop mount with a 2ft. "Firestick wannabe" from the truck stop.............and it clears the carport.:D I've never had any trouble out of it.

NUTS!!!!! Just blew a lower radiator hose eastbound out of Pagosa Springs, CO. Might be able to get it fixed yet today.
Shade tree mechanic error. When I replaced the radiator 2 years ago, apparently, I did not get the lower radiator hose onto the lower nipple properly. Eventually, it simply blew off, as the spring clamp didn't hold the hose securely.

 Coulda been worse though. Least it wasn't something worse. Take it you got er home in one piece?

Not home yet, but made the run from Pagosa Springs to Colorado Springs over Wolf Creek Pass on Highway 160 with no difficulties at all. Another 1,000 miles or so to get home yet between Friday & Saturday.

Which reminds me..... Pagosa Brewing. OMG. WHAT A DIVE. And great beer and one of the best pizzas I've ever had. I highly recommend it in spite of it's appearances, and will definitely stop there if I ever go through Pagosa Springs again.

just dropped off my truck for my father in law and his buddies to take to South Dakota for a week bird hunting......I have a bad feeling about this since when I will get it back I will have 48 hours to load the camper in it, load the Jeep and tools etc and head to Redbird....I hope that they take care of it and at least have it clean and with an oil change when they return it......

Tell him if he dosen't bring it back as you wish, you'll do naughty things with his daughter!

The mount from the taillight looks good, but I'm sure "per byron" the way I wheel ;) it would not last long...judging by all the custom pinstriping on the baby jeep (which was supposed to stay nice), the mount would probably be gone before I knew it. I'm not running a rear tire carrier and I probably will in the future but for KOH its going in the enclosed trailer for the trip out, so length is going to be an issue so I don't want the extra overhang of a tire carrier for this trip.

Hale how easy does that antenna come off? It would have to come off to go in the enclosed trailer.

Thanks for all the replies, this is good talk too for people making winterfest preparations that may not have a CB set up.

Flex I got your PM but I'm not sure which mount you have...

Alright, I feel a little stupid asking a "is this a scam?" question, but... any of you guys from Illinois ever hear of a place called Illinois Auto Brokers? I checked the BBB and they look legit, but I can't find anybody on the Internet who has said anything (good or bad) about them. It sounds like they buy fleet/lease vehicles from larger companies and then resell them. They have higher mileage vehicles, but are priced under book value most of the time.

I guess for only being 2 hours away I could just drive there and see for myself, just wondering if anyone else in the world knows who they are.

there are fleet brokers like that everywhere. Make the drive w/ your check book ready to deal..most of them are into bulk buys so when they buy, they buy a fleet and have A LOT of flex in the price if they are down a to a few models of a fleet being left. A local guy bought a 2004 chevy 4x4 straight cab long bed w/ minimal options, good miles and a great maintenance record for $3800. the company was asking $5200...

I've got mine on pretty tight. You wouldn't have to though, hand tight would be good enough.

Yea they say they primarily have fleet vehicles, but I swear they don't have two vehicles that look alike. The prices are almost too good to be true, 06 Duramax for $15k, 07 Cummins for $17k, etc. At nearly $10k below anything else I've seen it almost seems too good to be true.

I am also going to check and see if there are any fleet brokers more local to me. High miles don't really scare me that much, especially if maintenance has been done.

Thats because they go for cheaper when they have 400k miles on them! :D Its not a scam, there is a fleet broker that has an indiana auto&rv ad.

I was overly optimistic maybe. I found a couple people who bought vehicles from them and never got a title. I'm just speaking about the Illinois Auto Broker place, obviously fleet brokers are running legit operations.

I don't really know what I want to do anymore... but it is way cheaper to keep the Stupid Duty for a while so I might just do that. :dunno:

Wow 5 shots of Beam in 5 minutes after 4 beers in an hour and I'm drunk, it's pathetic. But i got to get sober so I can drive downtown and go out drinking with freinds tonight. Maybe Vegas aint so bad after all, it's mostly alcohol, women, alcohol, women, and more alchohol.

I really got to get my XJ fixed so I can go offroading out here, that roll at Haspin really trashed the stock axles (especially the front). Latest problem is a complety siezed upper ball jount adjusting sleeve on my '77 f150 d44, unless I can find a way to get it out it looks like new inner C on that side but I got to find another axle if I can't buy a new stock inner C (2 3/4" tube), if someone knows where I can buy a stock C let me know. I've tried torching it several times, broke my tool in it (so to speak) and most of the tabs off the top of the sleeve trying to get it out. Yes I've used a significant amount of PB blaster for a few days.

Apparentely my new name in my squadron is "Cooter". Could be worse

And by the way, CB antennas sticking out the side above the taillight are just asking for trouble, I destroyed a corner of my hatch (took me an hour with a pry bar to get it open) and busted a tailight. Mount it on the roof or a bumper.

SC "looking forward to KOH" Rednek
