Important

Seriously. My crippled ass painted my bumpers, trimmed front fenders, cut and fold on the rear fenders, installed hitch and tank skid, tore the dash apart "bout fitty lebum" times, Stereo, CB, intake, and god knows what else......JUST DO IT ADAM. Don't let lack of knowledge hinder you, we all had to start somewhere.

its a 15-25 year old station wagon, it doesnt have to be perfect. there are guys like dan that keep their grocery getter looking good, but it also isnt their first rodeo.

me? i apply the 20/20 rule for keeping mine looking good...

Yeah, dropping her and her crap off. Trying to figure out how much of the parent part I can skip out on.
you sound excited.

Speaking of just doing it yourself, Josh what did you use to cut the old bearing seats off your 88 when you did your ultimate 88 kit? Angle grinder? Porta band?

Grinder and a cut off wheel. I cut it a little long and cleaned it up with a flap wheel.

If I had a Portaband back then I would have used it. Less mess.

Re: Re: Important

I've got to take the daughter to school next month in Evansville,IN. We have to attend some parent orientation crap that is spread across parts of three days. Is there anywhere down there we need to eat at down there?

Also if anyone needs parts hauled from Northern Illinois to there, plenty happy to help. It would have to be fairly small going down, but coming back I can fit a set of axles in the Expedition.
You can help TH put his bumpers on.

I have to drive 7 hours past no fewer than 5 good 4 year schools to get her to a tiny little 4 block campus in Damn Near Kentucky. Then spend 3 days listening to a pile of BS, that amounts to... "let us jerk you off, while you pay 42k per year"....:rtm:

Maybe I can convince the wife, that I should go up to TH and help TH put those bumpers on.... :gag:

Wave when you go thru Vincennes.

TH, I just got done working a 10 hour shift. I am now at school with a couple cans of dew, some pizza, and enough gumption to re shim the rear axle and install the arb compressor on my Jeep.

Told the wife I'd sleep on the couch when I got home since she works at 5am.

What is she going to college for?

sounds about right. haha.

class for 5 or 6 hours hours, work for 5 or 6, donate plasma for some easy money, buy beer, build a race car, do some homework... minimal sleep. do it again the next day. i run on caffein and nicotine. one more year... im shooting for an internship at GM next summer now that my resume is starting to look a lot better. oh yea, i have a jeep too.

seriously going to have to put a pull out in our office this year though... im lead design on suspension for our baja car. **** designing around off the shelf components. taking notes the KOH and desert racer crowd. boxed and dimple died A arms and trailing arms, centered lowers, uniballs, goal is to have arms that weigh the same but are stronger than tube, need to run FEA. and machining my own knuckles. oh, and TIG an entire chasis.

Blah blah just build the shit.. SAE never got anything done, too many chiefs not enough Indians. I'd compare it to your build ;)

Engineers like to engineer.

We never missed a Baja race at RIT

zing! haha.

im trying to minimize waist. and the judges are CAD whores. they like to see it. we were only 55 points from a top 10 finish when i raced, and could stand to make up a few in design judging.

i saw western's car (thats where you went, right?) >600# behemoth. i did laps around them at illinois. gear box was kind of cool though... chain driven (about 95% efficient) turning a honda diff. but 102nd to 18th baby! i never start in the front of the pack, even racing go karts.

and the jeep doesnt need an engineer, it needs funds. haha.

PS - im no engineer. :spin1:

EDIT: ferris? i dont think they even made it on the track. couldnt pass tech? :rtm:

EDIT/EDIT: excuse me... 3 laps.

Mystery of the wobbly 8.8 carrier solved!

It was my goof, a big goof, but after I had figured out the shim thickness I needed to get the right backlash/preload, I accidently used one of the stock shims instead of one of the new ones... All is back together and well again.

Now its time for air compressor/wiring install...

News flash:

TH will not listen to anything anyone says. He will not build his own jeep.

Way too much talk is directed at him fully knowing it's not going to be put into practice.

Here's one last bit of advice, use the search option.

We are done here. We've all tried and failed. You have an excuse for everything.

So far every vehicle I've done has been leaking at the service ports. If you go to a shop they pull down a vacuum and say "well it held vacuum, system doesn't leak" because the service ports don't leak while something is connected to them

I got tired of doing an ac job checking for leaks and then pulling the lines off to find the sevice ports leaking. We now replace them on every vehicle that we can and put die in each one.

I buy 134 by the keg. Its cheaper that way and lasts forever but you have to buy a scale to get the proper amount in there.
