and the same wheel half cocked going straight that mine has.

pretty ricky also has a massive rear main leak. I keep washing off the downpipe so it doesn't catch fire. I'm putting it off until I swap the front axle.

There is a hole in the shifter boot and the smoke from the down pipe comes right through it into the cab...started to feel a little funny after a while.

I have an oil pan gasket and rm seal in the garage....guess it's time to finally use it
 
do you still have the remains of the outside boot? I fixed mine with a latex glove.
I'll post a fix. It's awesome, cut wa down on the smell and heat coming up in the console.

slip a finger over the shift lever, slide it all the way down, pop the wrist strecthy part over the bottom accordion piece of the boot. Fixed.

I drove with the interior boot off and it doesn't move or baloon up. Been on there for 2 weeks of daily driving and hasn't moved.

Mine had a huge hole in the top where someone cut it to poke the shifter through the bottom. Cause too hard to disassemble shifter to save the NLA $150 boot. :banghead:
 
Does anyone know what the Missouri State Highway Patrol looks for when inspecting a trailer to verify that it is or isn't "homemade"? I've got a tandem axle trailer that is just over 16 feet long that is 20+ years old that was never titled. My dad bought it new but never titled it and it's been on a friends farm rarely being used for the last 15 years. I went and picked it up, its got a torn up sticker that references some trailer sales company that I can find no trace of and has most likely been out of business for a long while. But no VIN plate or any other number that I can find on it that would tie it to a manufacturer. The coupler was replaced at one time after it rusted up so I'm guessing the original VIN plate/number was on the portion that got cut out and replaced.

The local inspection office told me it's no good for anything but scrap as a manufactured trailer with no title, VIN, documentation, etc. I'm wondering if it would pass as a home made trailer... especially considering that parts of it definitely are homemade as it's been modified a few times over the years.

I'm not trying to pass off a stolen trailer here, but since it's impossible for me to prove that I didn't steal it, the inspection station won't do anything.

I called a different inspection station and told them the same story but that the trailer had been homebuilt (rather than manufactured) but never titled and had no other documentation and they said just bring it in and they'd inspect it and it wouldn't be a problem...

All the Missouri DMV says is that homebuilt trailers must be inspected to confirm that they are homebuilt... if under 16 feet long, the inspection can be done by any state vehicle inspection location. If over 16 feet, it must be done at a Highway Patrol Inspection site.

Talking to the DMV about the issue gets me completely different answers than talking to the inspection site, which has been extremely frustrating.

Angle iron construction, nothing on it that I couldn't build at home other than the fenders, but it's pretty common to just buy fenders anyways, so I don't think it's unreasonable to claim it was homebuilt.

I just want to be able to plate the damn thing so I can use it instead of it just sitting in a driveway or risking getting pulled over while towing it.
 
It's too bad you aren't closer to Wisconsin, just tell em you borrowed it from a friend up there and they basically can't do anything, iirc Wisco doesn't plate/reg trailers.

Under 3k GVW doesn't need a plate, if over then you do or if you want to pull in another state.

In the next month or so I will have some front tow hooks you can have if you don't have some already.
