I was just "debating" with someone about saying the same thing. I was told I'm not an American because only native Americans are. I told them I was born in Florida and live in ohio. Doesn't get much more native than that. Then I explained how "Native American" actually migrated over here from Siberia. She had nothing. History for the win.

What nate said...that being said I've run mine on partially snow covered roads for the last 10 years..full snow cover its always on. Still works like it did 10 years ago...though I'm sure I shaved some life off of it yesterday. I did a rough calculation of when I put bigger tires on four years ago and even though my odometer says 281k she is most likely over 300k

Other way around, the AW4s were 21 spline and the AX15s were 23 spline. Then from 91 on they were both 23-spline. Then there's the whole input shaft length and gear cut mess.
Aaron, does your friend need to have a NP242? I might have a 21-spline NP231, I'll check when I get home. Also what's wrong with the case he has now?

I told him a 231 swap would be a good option if we can't find a 242. He said it's making a pinging noise like something may be about to let loose inside it.

you can use one from a grand and swap his input shaft to it. Or frankenmate the front half and rear half together.
pretty sure the hole for the spedo is different, but grandcases are pretty much the same internally if you need one to rape for parts. Way easier to find.
