Awesome that's kman. I think I'll be shooting for late July or early August. Cheda and ram rod showed interest in going too.

I think I'll be aiming more for a cabin close to a play ground and the beach that's john and Tara suggested but I'm still open to whatever at this point.

My jeep and dunes might just be meant to be. Vroom vroom v8 :D
 
i have been kinda wanting to hit silver lake again.

the camping was great out there.

Traded the Avalanche for a 00 K2500 5.7/4L80E crew cab short bed tonight. It's a little beat up, but it will handle the camper much better, and I can use it to haul the Jeep.
 
I've only been to silver lake dunes twice and could never get to the top of test hill. Beat the hell out of the truck and cj7 and just couldn't do it. Might have to try it in the xj.

Sounds like a good deal. Even if you had to dump some cash into it, I still think you're coming out ahead. Pics?
 
Pics will come once I get it cleaned up. I figured up all the things I needed to replace on the Avalanche, and the things this truck needed, and the truck won.

It doesn't, it includes SBO power. Any redneck can jam an LS into anything these days.

I've been working etc, still living in WI, seems like we've got a few more WI members around. Got disinterested in the XJ, getting re-interested in the hobby these days.

On the box tubing, since that excellent write-up on MadXJ has been gone for years now. With any of the sizes of tubing; the standard way to line it up tight to the pinch seam right? And then basically fill in whatever to get it to work with the doorsills?

You are doing something wrong then. Test hill isn't even the hardest to climb. I've made it in a stock dodge 1500, 3 different xj's, 3 different quads, and a old VW buggy.
