Important

Ya I don't get the need for a pure bred dog. It's been my experience that mixed breeds need way less maintenance, get sick less often and are usually better tempered. That being said, labs are retrievers seem to be more hearty than other breeds.

Unless you plan on breeding them why bother? You won't get papers from a shelter anyway.

That is the thing, I may breed it a couple times (or try).

pure bred dogs almost alway have health problems. Mixed breeds seem to be a lot better in the health department.

remember bad health = $$$$

personally i've thought about getting a lab with a good pedigree and breeding her. a friend of mine paid $1200 for his lab to get one from reputable parents. she is the best hunting dog i have ever seen. she also just had 6 pups this summer in may or june. they were sold at $1200 each...so he did alright by that deal. i think he is going to do it again next year

My friends labs have never seemed to have health issues until they got really old. If I get one, it will be from the same breeder.

That's a familiar sight. Driven that road so many times it's painful.

One of you should do a time lapse from the MWC to here. It would be easy. Take one photo of a cornfield then when you hit Colorado start the camera rolling. :D

The gopro is taking pictures every 60 seconds in the windshield :)

I'll bump it up to 5 or 10 seconds when we get to the cool stuff.

Maybe it should be on the gauges of the truck...

That's on the breeder rather than the breed. Unless you are talking little yappy crap. Too many breeders use the same stock repeatedly, that is what increases the rate of animal defects in their stock.

We have a pure breed boxer. Wicked smart dog. Gets into trouble all the time since it is a young boxer. But its probably the best dog with the kids we have had since our shepard was put down about 10 years ago.

I'm at the end of page 3720 and figured I would update everyone now and go back and read the pages and likely talk some more.

My buddy Paul and I sat around the back patio with Meganne's mom like we do every Tuesday night and polished off a case of Bud. We left the firepit with nothing but embers in it at 1am. Around 3am my door was getting beat on with Meganne's dad telling me that the garage was on fire.

The FD was already at the front door by that time. Our backyard neighbor saw the flames and called it in. Thank God her kid was sick that night and she was awake. They knocked down the flames and left around 5am. We were cleared to go back into the house. I managed to get back to sleep around 6am and woke up at 9.

Around 11:30 we noticed smoke coming out of the attic vent of the house and a little coming from the garage. So we called the FD back and they spend the next 6 hours tearing down the ceiling in the garage and upstairs bedroom to get to a couple tiny embers causing the smoke.

Now we're in clean-up mode, separating Meganne's mom's Avon inventory and vending business items from personal things and taking tally of what was all destroyed. Today we're getting a bit of a break from it all.

As far as we (all of us who live here, the fire chief and the insurance adjuster) all believe that a stray spark or ember flew out of the firepit and landed on the bar. The fire actually didn't start at the pit, but spread back to it.

The garage will be a total loss and the resto crew estimates at least 2/3 of the structure will be replaced. The house received minimal damage, however the damage it did sustain is on the exterior of the kitchen and we are without kitchen wares. No oven or microwave. Water, gas and electricity is available everywhere throughout the house.

It's a real pain in the ass to be going through this, but it could have been much worse if it hadn't been for good neighbors.
