i should also mention...i have no intention of giving him $2400, but a broken tcase is a good way to negotiate a deal...

i need something that can pull a trailer though. any issues towing with rear coils? i've never actually pulled anything with a coil sprung rear

Air bags and weight distribution hitch.

An Air Force tanker went down today. Thoughts and prayers for the friends and family members.
I just heard about that on the news. They anticipate no survivors. Very sad stuff.

How big of a trailer? Airbags in the rear coils would help with squat. A weight dist. hitch would help also, but I would be wary of having to use a WDH with a ZJ, then you are getting into too big of a trailer for the tow vehicle. I have seen Durangos and ZJs pulling loaded car trailers and it makes me wince a bit.

Ordered some turd polish today; Trac-Loc rebuild kit for the ZJ. Better than nothing, and a lunchbox locker for a LS carrier D44a is hard to find and $$ comparatively.

Not sure what to do about the front, it may end up with a Tru-Trac since I want to retain the full time function of the 242 that's going to be swapped in.

I've got a short story and a quick question today.

Broke the front leaf hanger bolt last night trying to swap in fresh leaf bushings and shackles.

So i cut the bolt leaving a stub and this morning my buddy welded on a bolt and we got it to wiggle a bit before the bolt broke in a new spot .

He had to go to work so i got to try my first welds out today and after a few tries i got the bolt out !
Now i really want a welder .

Anyway now i need a replacement bolt anybody know specs off hand to get a replacement .
Id rather hear what i need from Ace or fastenal because its convenient.
Dealer replacements are likely pricey and J-Yard lca bolts are kind of a drive but if thats the only way to get my car back today so be it.

Edit : i found it.
factory leaf bolts are M14 x 2.0 pitch x 120mm long, class 10.9, flange head, nipple tip

Anyone bought a New/refurb head to replace the 0331 heads lately? Got a line on a clean 00 XJ with bad head. I don't want to replace a bad head with one that will crack in 10k miles. Any reputable head shops around? From what I understand the 03-04 Grands with 4.0L had a better/updated casting design.

I am searching btw

Paging kastein... :D

He already got it :eyes:

But yeah, that bolt is the same as the LCA bolts on XJs and WJs, don't think ZJs and TJs use the same one unfortunately. I like to pull a few off WJs every time I'm at the yard because most of them are too new to have any significant rust buildup.

Flange head preferred, you probably aren't gonna find a suitable hardness bolt at ace/fastenal with the right threads sadly.

Dealer bolts are part number 3420 2118, nuts are 1150 2814. ZMJeeps tends to have them for fairly reasonable prices.

Not sure when i got so old that after i eat flamin hots i burp fire...

boat trailer for a jon boat (16-18 ft boat) and an small to medium enclosed trailer (14-16ft) neither are too heavy. I think the 5.9's have 5000lb capacity and they wouldn't hit half of that. on a very rare occasion it might tow dolly a vehicle a short distance. i plan on buying a truck eventually, but i am really contemplating parking the xj (finally) and getting something more reliable that is stock for now. i really only drive short distances at this point, but it would double as a hunting/fishing/camping vehicle at various times a year. if we ever decided to road trip, we would just buy something.

just for fun...i listed my xj on craigslist out here. i will never get what i want out of it, but until i find a place to park it...i'm goign to leave the ad up.

i found 2 more niners with 130k or less for 2k or less...one of them has a bad coupling in the t-case and needs 02 sensors...hmmmmm

The neon just about met an untimely demise about 20 minutes ago. I was sitting at the gate at work waiting on it to open up and the guy in the semi behind me got out of his truck to call to the office. One of the landscaping guys yelled "HEY YOUR SEMI!" I looked up to see it rolling toward the back of the neon. Probably should double check the parking brake on your truck with 40 tons in the back....

YIKES! glad you weren't hurt...that could have been a bad deal

Ouch. Glad you weren't in it when it got crunched.

FWIW, the rear shackle bolts are the same as the front leaf eye bolts.

Uhh, whoops! That's unfortunate. Though you'll probably get more out of your insurance pay-off than you have in it.

Glad I was in it or it would have been crushed....it was a couple inches from taking out the back passenger corner before i threw it in drive and pulled forward.

You guys clearly missed the "just about" bit there....She will love to be a neon for another day.

Shoot, I took that as you weren't in it yet.
