So im thinking about getting an Ipod nano. I have never used an apple product before, I don't even know how these things work. Right now I just pull up pandora on my android phone for my music listening pleasure.
can anyone break it down for me in laymon's terms on how these things work.

I just bought an ipod touch, I then bought a bunch of music on iTunes and for some reason I cannot download all of the songs from iTunes Store to my ipod and it's starting to piss me off. I hate Apple and I'm glad I did not buy an iPhone

How do they work. You select either "playlist" "artist" or "song" among other choices and hit the center button or touch the screen (not sure how the new ones work). Select a playlist, song or artist and touch it or hit the center button. Put in headphones and listen.
I personally like itunes. Plug in my iPod's, the software syncs any new songs or podcasts or media I have added (purchased or ripped off CD), "eject" it in itunes and go again. Ask any elementary student how an iPod works, they will be able to tell you.

Short story is that it's a solid state portable record player. All you need is battery power for it, no cell connection, no WiFi, nothing else (okay, headphones.)
iTunes sucks dead black diseased monkey phalluses. Supposedly, there are ways to manage Apple's iDevices without iTunes. I don't use Apple equipment, I've got just about zero personal experience with them.

You can also load all the music on to your phone in stead of using Pandora. from where ever you buy music from now or ripped off your cds from your computer. screw buying another device that you already have. especially if you have to buy the apple name.

my phone IS the problem. to long to discuss. so the reason im thinking ipod is to stop using my phone.
so what im gathering is, you buy an empty product and open up an itunes account. then you can put all of your current music on this itunes account along with buy new music through itunes. then you plug you ipod in and download it all to your device and you are good to go.
this is all previously downloaded materiel, so no streaming right? meaning no wifi, or cell reception.
seems as though itunes could organize my music a little be better(seeing as how i probably have about 400 cds i tote around with me)
also, each and every time i take a walk through an electronics store like lets say best buy, all of their music playing products seem to revolve around ipods, could make life a little easier right?
does it cost anything to have an itunes account?
or is it just whatever the cost of the song you want to buy?

I used itunes once and it royally ****ed up my music library (doubles and triples of the same songs in different formats/folders), took a month to get back to somewhat normal.
So, then you'd be out of touch?

One thing I really love is the new music match deal they have. Costs $20 a year but it works like this. You turn it on and it scans your hard drive for music. It doesn't even have to be on iTunes. Then it looks through their database and matches everything you have to their library. If you have some obscure album that isn't in their library, say a local band who cut their own record, it uploads that to your cloud service.
Now all of your music is in the cloud and if you are like me and have over 100gb of music it's awesome because you can download what you want to your device. I have a 32gb iPhone. I fill it up with music and when I get bored with that music I delete it off the phone and download different music. Great stuff.

Oh and the best part....lets say you were say um....the type of guy who downloaded a crapload of stuff from less than ethical sources. If you have music that is a really crappy copy and sounds horrible, if iTunes can match the title they automatically give you the better copy from their library.
I actually have some music I ripped from CDs that were scratched. The versions I download to my phone are pristine copies. No scratches.

I bought 31 songs from iTunes the other day, I tried to download them onto my iPod and I've only gotten 20 of those songs. What do I need to do to download everything? it keeps saying unable to download

Did you buy them on your ipod and tried to download them straight to the unit over wifi? If so, get on itunes on your computer, see if you can download them there and then transfer them to the ipod.
Other than that, I have nothing.

I am not a fan of iTunes, and historically I've never been a huge fan of Apple. I did buy a Macbook many years ago to give them a fair shot, but found the only thing I used it for was browsing the Internet and remoting into Windows computers. I did buy an iPhone last year and I have been a pretty big fan so far. Giving up a physical keyboard was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.
Sold the Duramax yesterday, couldn't believe I actually got a buyer from Craigslist for it. The guy came out, drove it, and offered me cash on the spot even though I have a lien on it. Drove up to South Bend today to pay it off and get my title. I must look like a trustworthy person

I bought the music on my computer and it won't let me download to my iPod. I've tried several different things including over WiFi and using the usb. I updated the iPod too. Maybe I need to reset it and start from scratch.

My six year old navigates his iPad and Heidi's iPod like its his job and he's employee of the month. I never had a issue with my iPhone either but I've never tried to do what you're doing. I have put music I downloaded else where on it though and it went smooth but its been over a year since I've done that so I don't remember how I did it without doing it again myself. The only thing I don't like about my apples is the way they do storage but its a smart way that apple has made money off of.
