classic example of administrators getting sold on a product and then not consulting the IT people before they mandate it's adoption.

Around here, we refer to that as the WorldPerks School of Management, aka management by airline magazine.

For today's insanity, it's "Let me get this straight.... you want me to install a patch to secure communications software from a user's home directory in a Japan server. Right."

Apple flew several of our district administrators out to California numerous times to 'Wine n Dine' them... Or so I'm told...

I'm of the mind that Apple products are play things, for the most part. Sure they're used A LOT in the different Arts and Graphic Design schools of study, but were do you see them in actual Industrial settings? Nowhere as far as I'm concerned... Sure, they are 'user friendly' but at the middle school and high school level, we don't need user friendly, we need machines that can do the tasks we need them to do; not, do things easier, but it takes more to do, or we need to buy this software, or that adapter to do it...

Sorry for ranting my views on it, but its annoying...

my wife is in school for graphic design and all of her tech classes are using MAC since she started. i have not even turned on a MAC since i started. i guess its all about what you are studying.

problem is now she wants one. obviously she will get it anyway because it will help benefit her future career but still hurts to think about buying a 1000 dollar MAC and set it on our desk next to my 300 dollar PC

You can insert whatever OS or hardware you want into that statement. Changing the foundation of your infrastructure is a time consuming and often expensive process. It wouldn't matter if you were switching from apple to microsoft to linux or bob's local computer code shop.

My "brand new" computer at work is running windows xp, IE7 and about 40 other outdated software programs in the interest of job security. And my laptop is running an i5, while all the "new" desktops are running i3 processors. I bet your tax dollars paid about $3k a piece for those $500 boxes.

The problem you have is the same one that I have. Nobody writing the checks is paying any attention to what the guy at the bottom of the ladder really needs or wants to do his job better.

Actually, in my line of work, I need an SSH client and a X11 Windows server. Native on OSX, not on MSWindoze. No graphics, all Unix and Linux administration.

Used the front tow hook on my XJ today to pull down a tree I cut wrong (and part of it was the chainsaw wasn't long enough to cut all the way through the tree). NAXJA requirements are good for many things.

Including wheeling.

Just think of the possibilities if you had 2! You could use one for tree removal and the other to tie down a cooler! Oh,...wait....nevermind.

Of course I used them for wheeling. Once I get a few things taken care of, I will be going back to Badlands (a few minor mechanical fixes I need to do).

Hmm lets see:helpme:

1. Coworker electrocutes me by flipping breakers while I'm working on an x-ray. Even though we were the only ones in the building and he knew I was working on an x-ray. He was searching for the breaker to the outlets in his room.:twak:

2. I break the window on the sliding cargo door of my van and get cut.

3. Cell phone towers and network were down for my area for 8+hours and now I have 15 voice mail's.

Things happen in three's glad Monday is almost over lol
