Important

quick lesson for everyone on the grade of bolts and their intended use. I busted a shear pin, grade 3, bolt last night. I used the last few grade 3 bolts I had left to get going again and after the last one busted I had nothing else left but a grade 8 bolt. I put it in and it did not fail under load but instead it ended up costing me a $3500 gear box. A simple $.05 bolt would have prevented this but it was 11:30 last night and I thought I could "get by".....so, that comes out of the "saving for Harlan" budget....back to the drawing board.

Tyler, you *KNOW* that shear pins are fuses, right?

yeah yeah yeah... :D

I was gambling on it to "just get me by" for 2 more bales and I shot craps..

The bright side is that I am in contact with a guy that has the same machine and it caught fire and I am hoping to buy the gear box off his if it is in an undamaged area. I can buy his whole machine for half of the cost of the gear box.

Big square? Small square? Or round bales? Only 2 bales left, had to be big bales of some sort.

I know there are a number of shear pins on the IH small square baler at home, I only remember shearing a couple of pins on the knotters, though. And those things are pure black magic.

Big round bales. It is a Vermeer bale processer/grinder unit. When the dil-rod at the parts counter told me $3500 for a gear box I about flipped out because the whole unit brand new is only @ $10,000. I am not sure he and I were on the same page.

Ah, so it's an UNbaler. I can't say I'm too surprised at the pricing, that sounds like a high torque gearbox (BP8000 model?) Might be worthwhile to call a couple of other Vermeer dealers, though.

Thinking about selling the Manche. Anyone need a solid project truck? Drivers floorboard needs replaced but the rest is great.

I believe it's an 86 Longbed.

I know it has the 2.suck v6.

What Nate said. It'd be a pretty mean truck with a TPI 350 in it! :D

There is a 17 year old kid missing from my church. The story is that he was possibly kidnapped or car jacked last night around 10pm, from the church parking lot. They found his car and his cell phone early this morning about 4 miles away in town, but haven't found him. Isn't normally a troubled kid, hard to tell if its legit or he's runaway, either way the entire church is freaked out.

In other news, the gas company is coming to replace my gas meter because they say that its not reading any gas usage...which might explain my low gas bills for the last three years...hopefully it doesn't get ugly...and I'm glad it didn't leak and blow the joint up.

Reminds me of a guy who knocked the shear pin out of the prop on his out board and replaced it with the only think in his tackle box that would fit.
I have no idea how a 1/4 inch drill bit got in there, but that is what i used.
Until we hit another submerged tree.
paddle time!

Just got home from a 16.3 mile bike ride on a very expensive borrowed canondale. It was a very nice ride averaged about 14 mph. I didnt think that was too bad for my first time out.
