I filed this complaint with the BBB just now...

"I ordered Direct TV through Frontier because Frontier was raising their rates in our area. I made my order of One HD DVR, Two HD receivers, and on standard receiver. I was told that the DVR and one HD receiver was included and I had to pay $100 for the extra HD receiver. I agreed to that at the time because that what I was told it would take for the extra HD receiver.

Upon receiving my equipment from the installer, I was told that I was getting one HD DVR and three HD receivers. He told me that because of my local channels all of my receivers needed to be HD. I asked him why I had to pay for the extra HD receiver if I was getting all HD receivers and he told me that he didn't know and I should call.

I called Direct TV a day or two later, I didn't write down the extact dates, I'm sure Direct TV knows. I asked them about this issue. My point being that if I would've just ordered the one HD DVR, one HR receiver, and two standard receivers, I wouldn't have had to pay for the extra HD receiver. When the receivers were installed I would've been automatically upgraded to the HD receivers due to needed them for my local channels. Also I was never informed of any options or exceptions based on receivers for local channels. Both the person that I spoke with and their supervisor told me that the order information showed that I was getting all HD receivers and there was no mention of the standard receiver. They could not explain why I was charged for one receiver and not both, finally telling me that they were not going to refund my money because I got a deal not having to pay for the third HD reciever (fourth counting the DVR). They told me that Frontier messed up in the order and there was no mention of a standard box.

I called Frontier. They explained to me that they could see my original order in their records and it showed that I ordered one HD receiver, two HD receivers, and one standard box. Frontier had no idea that all receivers in my area were upgraded to HD for the local channels. Frontier did not understand why I couldn't have ordered two standard receivers and not been charged the extra $100. They also stated that even though they collected the $100 for the receiver, that money was sent to Direct TV and only Direct TV could refund.

I called Direct TV back. After nearly an hour on the phone with them, Direct TV finally admitted that I could've ordered the two standard boxes and not been charged the extra $100. They did not admit this before. However, all sales are final and they couldn't refund my credit card nor could they issue me a credit. They also told me that I could've done something either when the tech brought the boxes out, which I didn't know then what I know now or before the 15 day satisfaction period was over. I also can't cancel my service without paying over $400 bucks. The 15 day satisfaction period was over on March 23rd.

I feel like they owe me the $100 because if I hadn't ordered the extra HD receiver, I would've got it anyways without paying extra. They don't agree and I don't think its fair business practice."

You are lucky there wasn't a stud there. We'd be making jokes about you missing multiple teeth instead of only one.

I did the same repair in college... one of my idiot roommates put one of my other idiot roommates through the wall horsing around. A few days later it was fixed :D

lucky there wasn't another one there too then, you would have ended up smashing into his wood lastara

Got my new winch dropped off by the UPS man yesterday. I do have to say, WinchDepot.com was very good to me. It took just over a week and a half to get my winch situation taken care of, and that included me shipping it to them first. Thanks to the lifetime warranty, I have a new winch!!!

For fans of Goose Island.....

Inbev/AnheuserBush has bought out Goose Island. They've had a stake for some time as part of a craft brewer's alliance, they now own everything. Hopefully, they'll continue to run it as a hands-off operation.

Anyone tried to watch TV at the badlands? I know...no comments from the peanut gallery...Anyways the Final Four games are this saturday during/after wheelin and the TREC race. I have a TV and an antenna and a converter box I can take...just wondering what the reception will be like from Attica. I'm guessing the closest CBS station is in Layfatte...how much antenna would I need to have good reception?

mac 'i know, screwed up priorities' gyvr

An antenna doesn't seem so bad now eh?

Now you're talking.

You can get ABC/Fox and CBS pretty easily. It's only 30 miles, the ABC station is line of sight with the antenna ten feet off the ground.

The CBS station is VHF (boo!) so you'll need a VHF/UHF antenna. Honestly the numbers look good. Becuase there's only one LOS tower and the rest are 1 or 2 dge I'd pobably upsize the antenna a bit to compensate for any atmospherics.

Are you planing on doing an RV antenna mounted to the camper? I was looking at those for the uhaul, they've got some sweet amplified domes with an internal rotator for about $100.

If you just want to stick a post in the ground and point an antenna then get a blue rated one and you'd be alright without an amplifier. Point the antena about 255* magnetic and you'll get some chanels.

Here's the TVfool listing for towers/signal strength.

I'd say you've got a decent shot at the first three, the ones with the real low NM aren't going to happen without a serous antenna and preamp.

I would get an antenna large enough to pick up channel 17, as tey've got a secondary channel with live radar, and that could be handy.
So, legitly I think with a blue rated antenna you should get:
41-ABC Virt channel 15
31-NBC Virt channel 17 (this is a repeater for WAND NBC)
26-FOX Virt channel 27

If you rotate the antena to nearly due east you might get
11 CBS Virt Channel 18

Without any trouble.
It's sketchy on these, they would be located at that 255-260 compass heading:
48 CBS Virt channel 3
18 NBC Virt 17 (same as the repeater above)
22 CW virt 23

So permanent RV mount or hillbilly post and house antenna? I'll link you to the cheapness, but you have know what you're looking for.

wow quad post, no wonder my page wouldn't load up :D

Edit: or not :dunno:

I think the board just had a major hiccup...I was having isses as well.

I need to get CBS. The basketball games are on CBS. With cheapness is there any place I could get an antenna locally before Friday?

I was just going to use bunny ears with the my digital converter box.

I'm stuck with Direct TV for two years unfortunately.

mac 'thanks for the help' gyvr

Bunny ears *might* get you something.

If you want to go cheap, and it's something you're planning on basically using this one time at the campground.

Should be in stock, I'm using this very antenna to get my VHF signals at over twice the distance and much worse NM. You could likely use it unamplified, make sure there's a matching transformer in the box to convert to regular 75 ohm coax, or you'll need one of those.

$26 and you'll get CBS if you point it @ 80* magnetic. You'll not get anything else though, as those are all UHF.

To get both UHF and VHF you'll need a combo antenna. They're bigger and more expensive:
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3740646

Obviously they're available a lot cheaper on the intarweb, but if you need it local that's about your only options. The crap available at target and whatnot is all indoor urban antennas, they're worthless in the rural areas past 20 miles from the transmitter.

The antennacraft HBU33 is a good antenna, you could always take it home with you and mount it on the house and have HD OTA backup for your directv box.

Edit: Do you have a local TV place? You might get a better selection and pricing if you find the local TV guy, they may even have some takedowns for cheap. Lots of people don't want the eyesore of an antenna nowadays and will give it away to someone willing to take it down. They have no idea that they're missing the boat...

Double edit:

there's a selection of genuine amplified RV antennas with internal rotators. I'm looking at one of these for the top of the uhaul.

Triple Edit: and call around to the local marine places, the marine antennas are the same as the RV ones.
I promise, this is the last of my random thoughts....

I would love to cancel cable if I could still get some news channels. Can this big beast do that?

Thanks
