Important

My hometown started charging for fire calls because there wasn't enough in their budget for it.

I'm a bit of a firebug myself, starting and putting them out. Legally of course and its almost wildfire season in WI. (I do LTE stuff for WIDNR) I always enjoy when the VFD's show up to a wildfire in their bunker gear.

Doing your fields would be an awesome prescribed burn.

So I've got just over a month to get my junk running and tires. Anybody in the KC area with a truck and trailer that would help me get it to my buddys shop for gas money and beer?

Just had a "Yohn'd" moment that turned out to not be horrible.

I pulled into the Subway parking lot to grab some lunch. I came out and couldn't get the motor to turn over in the Dodge. I could hear the starter spin but it wasn't engaging the flywheel. I tried firing it up a couple times same thing, no start. I crawled under the dodge and saw that the starter was missing a bolt and the bottom bolt on the starter was loose. I could push it up enough to engage the flywheel but there was no way I was starting the truck and holding the starter up enough to engage. I tried jamming my phone between the motor mount and the starter to hold it up. No dice. Finally I found an old 7-pin harness that came off the back of my hitch that I never threw away. Jammed that in there and she started right up.

May luck may be changing :D

Now off to eat my Subway sandwich lol

Most of the volunteer firefighters I have ever met are wacky and want to burn stuff down and put it out...I never knew they tried to bill you...lol don't your township taxes pay for all their toys? Shoot some of the volunteers around here have nicer equipment than the city fire has...

mac 'rather run into a building of bullets than fire' gyvr

Our county has townships and they each have a VFD. The county is so sparsly populated that it does not generate enough taxes for the VFD to have much more then a go cart w/ a hose. We pay fire dues to the VFD and it is only like $25 a year and that covers you incase you need their services. If you are not a dues paying member, you get charged a minimium of a $500 call out fee. Just about all the volunteers are the same wack jobs you refer to mac. The going joke around here is that you are lucky if they can make it to the call w/o their vehicle breaking down. They spend 5X the money on the cool clothing and redneck stickers sporting their firefighter status then what the spend on their vehicle....and dont forget the cool blue flashing light!!!

I'd like to shoot the engineer that decided my B&S 18.5 horse needed a solenoid in the bottom of the float bowl to stop fuel on shutdown to prevent backfires.

That was only 2 hours of my time troubleshooting.

Once I figured out the plunger on the solenoid wasn't retracting to allow fuel when the key was on, I cut it off and reinstalled the fuel bowl.

Well at least when you removed it from the system it didn't freak out like any computer'ed vehicle would and still not let it start.

They usually get stuck in the open position and sometimes, fill the crank case. Mine did. I did the same as you and and intalled an in line fuel shutoff valve. Just have to remember to shut it off.

SMORR qualifier on Speed Channel right now...where were qualified for KOH last year...

its also on again several more times over the weekend...

A shutoff valve is probably a good idea, but gravity fed lawn mowers have been around for 50 years or so without dumb little solenoids.

The gas gets into the cylinder and then past the rings into the crankcase. If you run it dry when you put it away and then run it during the mowing season once a week, all you really need is an oil change every year.

i've always had a big puddle of fuel under the carb when the float stuck, not a crank full of gas. I just put the inline shutoffs on everything, that way i can run the carb dry and not have to empty the tank for storage.

Yeah, I know what you mean.....
It's been several years ago when that all happened. I know mine did it and then a few months later the mower at Grandmas did the same thing......crank case filled with fuel. Local repair guy said that he sees it all the time. I don't remember all the nitty gritty details.

Glad you got it figured out. Happy mowing.:D

One of these days I will have a yard that has this view.

My friend austin from college was a VFD guy from new york... and also a ham radio op (so was I)... yeah this fits him perfectly. He was a total wacker but pretty funny, just had to make sure to never lend him money. Had a big old rotted out dodge pickup that I was usually helping him fix, he finally managed to sell the POS to some fool for like 5 grand and bought a red XJ with the money. This was after I bought my XJ but way before I joined NAXJA. He's in the airforce now AFAIK.
