the F()*&*&^$$%^^*&^*&*^N thing finally started and after a minute or two of running the repairman said to shut it off and see if it starts back easily..not it wont even crank. It is clicking like a locked up starter.....it is now 10 degrees out and dark so I left it sit in the parking lot plugged in. Cant wait till tomorrow to put new batteries and possibly a starter in it..F my life.....

granted I am used to this kind of gthing in tractors etc, but it sucks on a new to me truck. our worn out 99 isnt typically this much problem.

Could just be low batteries if you spent a lot of time trying to start it... running the glow plugs and starter could have worn them down. Especially if you're getting the rapid clicking of the starter but it won't spin. If you're just getting a single click then I'd be thinking the starter is bad.

It sucks but the rest of the truck is nice enough that it's worth fixing a few of these issues up front. Better to find out now than when you're far from home and really need it.

Tyler, I wouldn't put too much faith in your repair man, he thought antifreeze was running out of the fuel bowl, all on road fuel is green!
I have never met the guy, might be OK, but the gas rag thing is not what is normally done.
Why did he have you shut if off after it was running?
the batteries were very low and needed to be recharged.
The truck will be fine, it needs batteries.

I know, I am just being a whiney bitch. I am going to have a buddy come tomorrow and load test the batteries and if they are good that will be nice. If I did eat up the starter, it would not suprise me b/c we cranked on it off and on for an hour. I have a local place that rebuilds starters for a decnet price. I just want everything done and tied up before WF. If I have to drop some major coin, it is what it is, just unfortunate it happened right now.

Tyler, did you visually verify that it does indeed have ALL of it's 4wd parts?

Shoulda bought a bus.....

daym...bring on the comedians!! :D I have been on the phone non stop and everything I have been hearing is leaning towards batteries. I am going to pick up a couple in the morning and see if I can get them put in tomorrow. I have also been told by multiple sources to get a heavier cord to plug in and a shorter length if at all possible. It is all worth a shot.

Hobag, I tried like hell to convince Camille of the bus but I was shot down..she even nixed me on a crew cab International 4900.....

Cheese "could of had a bus and if broke down I could still mocrowave popcorn" Man

Ordered Rough Country's long arm upgrade this morning. I'm planning on running it with a 3" Rusty's lift kit with the heavy duty coils. I've heard of people running the LA kit with 3.5" lift coils, does anyone think I will have any on road issues having the axle a smidge too far forward?

Don't forget that those 7.3s like cam sensors...that will cause a turn and turn and turn issue also, and sometimes an intermittent start. that said i don't know how to know its bad...

what has 100 balls and screws old ladies?

BINGO!

Shoulda bought a dura... wait, nevermind.

I am a fan of the 7.3 PSD minus the perpetually leaking fuel filter housing, the injector wiring ran through the valve cover gaskets (why?!), the $$$ injectors and the poor handling characteristics. :D

Take it with a grain of salt though, the Chevy 6.5 is known for randomly snapping the crank and burning holes in pistons if an injector sticks, plus the fuel system driver burning up from being mounted in the valley of the engine (wonder why it gets overheated?). They all have their quirks, even the all powerful Cummins.
