Who has the best price am going to buy new ones this week and want a good deal if i can get one. I am also going to get a front locker so any input would be great. What kind do you guys think i should go with? pros and cons of what you have had and what i should run.

Light wheeling only. more of a fishing and camping rig then a rock crawler.

I got all of my gears/carrier/install kit from complete offroad. Good price, no whine. Might wanna check the rwkhaussupply.com, I heard he has good prices.

If you don't mind the occasional click/pop, I recommend going with an aussie in the front.

X2. Just pm Rob and tell him what you want. His prices are fare and fast shipping. I have dealt with him on several occasions and have nothing but good things to say. I have the spartan and the install was super easy.. Good luck

I would check with all the NAXJA sponsors, call them and ask if they have a discount for members, you might be surprised on what they will do for you with a red name. I always call Dave up at Northridge4x4.com, he knows so much and I have spent so much time on the phone with him . . . and LOTS of my money have went to his shop. (if you buy from outside CA you save sales tax, just watch out for the shipping costs)

For me I go with the higher priced gears, get quality because it is not a simple swap if they blow up on you. Maybe Bryan C. will see this and post up, listen to him, working for years at the dealership, he see's and knows what brands are best for gears. I have always just asked him and went with what ever he says, it might cost you a little more now but . . .

For a locker you have so much to pick from, as posted the Aussie will make some clicking sounds when on the road, I have had three in the front of some of my jeeps, great locker because it is simple to install, is cheep and works great.

Because you are doing gears you can get a full carrier locker, and then it depends on what you want to do with it. If you like to go to up to the snow, you might want to go selectable locker like ARB, Eaton or OX. A locked front axle (Aussie, Detroit) in the snow can be very tricky to drive, not a big deal if you are a good driver and understand how the locker works, but it can get ugly and don't plan to let the Girlfriend/Wife/Kid/Friend drive it if they don't know how to drive with a front locker in the slick stuff.

On the flip side ARB's need an Air supply, OX's have cable issues, eaton silonoids gets shorts . . . there is more to think about with a Selectable locker, if you have a simple locker, it will just work, nothing extra to think about or deal with when it has an issue on the trail.

There is no right answer here and you will get lots of different opinions, just please don't spool or weld a dana 30 . . .

Spartan front, quieter and cheaper than an Aussie.

Aren't they pretty much the same? I doubt its quieter. I run a lock right in my 30, and I like it better than am aussie in the rear.

Definitely go quality. I have some cheap gears in my rear axle, and the pattern is good but it whines at all speeds.

so what company would you say to go with for the gear?

what do you guys think about the trutrac locker for the Dana 30?

I just got back from Jaw Bone Canyon and this is my first trip since I put a Tru Trac in the 30 and it worked great! I love it and dont know why I havent done it sooner. I havent had the chance to wheel it on grippy stuff like rock slabs but it climbed all the dry wash outs and rocks in the Mojave desert with ease. Hills are awesome too being locked on both ends. The only thing I would reccomend with a auto front locker is maybe get a Tera 2lo kit so you can drive with crawl ratio but not always strss your drive train negotiating simple turns.

I would go Yukon, many people say they work well.

Uh, no.

The old addage of "you get what you pay for" comes to mind when I was shopping for gears. To be honest I'm not sure who I would go with these days. Definitely not Yukon, or any other "house" brand from your local 4wd parts supplier.

Precision gears, Motive gears, and Reider Racing are all good brands from the past that I have used. I have no clue as to their current reliability or current place of manufacture.

Really, it just depends on what ratio you want and what axle you got. Once you figure that out, then deicde who has what you need. Shop around, and make a few calls and talk to the people in the business. Don't just buy the cheapest set you can find.
