I thought the 99 had distributorless ignition...but I may be off a year, it just seems that it started sometime in 98. :anon:
At any rate, the XJs came with a good, hot ignition coils. A good set of wires can make a slight difference, but not much more you can do. We've covered this many times here over the years.
Scroll down on this page and you'll see similar, past threads about it. That's the tip of the iceberg. Try along the top bar and use the search engine feature.
i bought the firepower ignition kit from quadratec. coil, cap, rotor, wires from performance distributors. good if you need a tuneup. you can gap the plugs more fwiw.
Good wires will make a noticeable improvement. I put a set of the Accel 8.8 spiral wound wires on my Cadillac to fix an engine buzz and it barks the tires now.
