IFS instalation question

Boy I really missed out on some good debate.

Here's what it boils down to:

1. Adding a big lift and 35" tires to a vehicle that sees only pavement duty is gay.

2. IFS/IRS work better on pavement, and in some off-road situations. High speed desert work, fire roads, etc.

Just because you have one kind of suspension, don't be bigoted towards other kinds. They all have a purpose, they all serve a niche.

CRASH

I totally agree with Crash's side of argument.

I wheel with two Tacoma guys and their vehicles do fine in most situations off road. Granted in Jeeps, the solid axle has it's benefits in other situations. But don't put down advancement in technology. That IFS yota, can really whip the XJ in situations like crash described. I'd much rather have a IFS vehicle for driving on road.

Back on Topic of first post
There have been people that made custom crawlers that use IFS. I believe back in november this came up so just do a search for IFS. Was a good website on a guy's crawler that used IFS and it cost alot but it works. Hope I helped

Is it just something I'm assuming here or don't most of us use our XJ's offroad? IFS should be discussed in the Street and Performance forum. :)

If you're building a vehicle for every purpose, you'll end up with a VERY comprimised offroad vehicle. I don't want something that will just "do fine".

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, Walker Evans experimented with an Indepentant front and rear DynaTrac ProRock 60, quite trick. Must not have been too happy with the results though because now they're now running solid ProRock 60's. Bet they miss the indepentant suspension when they take their rock buggy to the mall, though. :)

Auto manufacturers aren't concerned with bottom-line offroad performance. The popularity of SUV's and soccer moms who want a truck that drives like a car got just that, truck bodies on car chassis. I bet the new Explorer w. IFS / IRS is incredible off road.....Right! It's going to be a sad day when the most capable Jeep is a Liberty wanna-be. Gotta love technology!!

i'm actually looking forward to this day!

the day the liberty becomes the most trail-capable vehicle out of the box, is the day we improve greatly upon keeping retards who don't belong off-road off our trails!

You use to be a retard who didn't belong on the trails. What ever happened to nuturing newbie losers into trail monsters? :attom:

You'll never cure the urge of people who bought a 4x4 just so they could park one tire on the snow pile in their parking lot to display the size of their manhood to all. These people will always make absolute fools of themselves on the trail.

I once ran into a group who had name tags and walkie talkies and lots of stock body cladding and such. They were running the trail in reverse and had come down the worst mogul hill only to be faced with a bad one going up from the bottom. Couldn't go forward, and couldn't go back in the other direction. It was like putting gerbils in a stainless steel bowl with a treat at the top, but less fun. :helpme:

Nay

RE: retards and Subarus.

I agree 100% with Beezil.

Driven an Explorer? YUCK :puke: I sold Fords for about a year and I'd never pay a nickle for one. What a pile of junk those things are right off the show room floor.

Sure IFS may ride nice but then why not just buy a Caddy or one of those crappy Escapes, CRV's or that Kia thing? Still want to pretend you have a 4x4? How about buying a KJ? Maybe you could wait for that Treo thing from Jeep if that's too much to handle. In fact, you'd be better off in a CAR. I don't have any cars anymore but I remember them riding quietly and softly...

Trucks are trucks and are supposed to ride like trucks. If you want IFS buy one of those Chevy 2500 trucks like my neighbor has and I'll pull you out just like I do him. Gotta love it when a $1500 15 year old XJ has to rescue a brand spanking new 4" lifted $40k truck.

:moon:

Shoot... now I am confused... if my cherokee is a TRUCK? why does my nebraska registration say its a Stationwagon?

and I have a Truck... with gasp a IFS front end that looks like a solid axle... that darned 88 F150 is confusing me now.. is it a IFS or a Solid axle?

cornfused.

:D
