I started

so the dak line will fit a d35 then? Awesome.
I'll pick one up tonight along with tube to make new hard lines.

The brake hose and lines are, for the most part, the same from D35 to D44.

Double flaring takes a little practice, but once you've done it a few times it is easy.

As long as it bolts to the hard line on the chassis I don't care. I can deal with any "adapting" on the axle.

well, the axle swap is still on schedule.
I've now got a D35 with Mj perches and a Detroit locker :)
Need to get the brakes finished tomorrow night and I'll be ready.

Back to the matter at hand... now that you've started, how long until you are finished?
His wife said about 45 sec.  JIM.

Axle done? Bringing dad's tools on saturday so we can tag team (the jeep, you sickos). I got a couple bucks says we can get done on saturday.

Going shooting tuesday night, call me.

Just need to do the brake lines onight and put the brake backing plates on it.
locker went in OK, backlash checked out at 9 thousandths, which is what it was when we took it apart.

We need to op check that before we install it under the jeep, make sure its locking and unlocking. Sounds like we're ready to go. I'll bring the camera so the boys can see some pics.

We already did. Locker functions properly.
Rear axle needs brakes to be complete.
Front axle needs my wheel bearings and rotors to be complete.
I should also put that new steering stabilizer on it tonight.
I need to get U-bolts, and new centering springs with a larger head. Anyone got a suggestion on the centering spring?

centering bolts, for the springs. I figure the ones I have will be too short because of the AAL, and I need ones with a larger head anyway, since the mopar perches have a bigger center hole. We discussed it last night in chat, I know how to proceed.

Go get a 5/16" bolt from the hardware store and turn the head down until it matches the perch hole.

Make sure the socket for the corresponding socket for the nut will fit inside the hole on the u-bolt plate. I'm sure it will without opening up though.

Start with a socket head cap screw if you want.

Me and dirk swapped axles out in about 4 hours, not too bad since he is mechanically uninclined.

The only thing I'm worried about is the 20 years of winters it's seen. But I've been spraying bolts for a month now.

No shit?

SPOBI.

Nate, MJ's use 3/8" center pins, not the wimpy 5/16" ones like a XJ. Just use a 3/8" SHCS (socket head cap screw) and don't worry about the head diameter difference... it is close enough.

Thanks Mark.
I had read that earlier, but forgot totally about the 3/8" part. I'll just go get a 3/8" cap head screw and call it good.

This statement is almost right.

Work smart, not hard.

You were doing so well, I didn't want to break your "zone"

I did not know that.
