Any advice on avoiding said back injuries to dachsunds?
I'm keeping his weight proper, he weighs about 18 lbs. He's not allowed jumping. He's just a puppy yet, so the jumping thing is hard.

Prehaps you could truss him.
Either with some sort of hoop from his hips to his shoulders or
an internal suport, but Rocky might not like the latter.....
