I just got a $535 ticket

I ordered the flap kit last night at like 10 and they shipped early this morning. Thats some good service right there :) Cash is defiantly a stand up guy! Also bought a universal plate mounting kit so I can mount that plate up also.

And Matt lets hear that story.

Has anyone contacted the sheriff to try and get permission to not need a front plate? It's probably a lost cause...but if they'll allow that...I wouldn't mind saving myself the worry.

AFAIK, if you have an older vehicle (30 years or older) you are eligible for a collector's plate, which means no tabs and no front plate. I've considered doing this on my old yellow beater.

washington guys need to do so some research if you jeep is register as a station wagon you do not need to have mud flaps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! check before you judge............

I'm 90% sure that's correct. My dad has a collectors plate on his MGB and his front plate isnt even a plate...it's shaped like one but says "MGB" in big writing.

I'd do that Doug, you'd get like $100-a-year insurance too.

Installed them yesterday in the snow along with the front plate.

For the record, I find it disgusting that you can not have a plate or mudflaps and be fined $535, but if you go off-roading on quad trails, chop down trees, and just generally destroy OHV areas, the fine is only $124.

Those penalties ought to be swapped.

yeah its ridiculous to say the least. But welcome to Washington, our government here makes no sense at all.

Well I talked to my attorney today and we are having a meeting early this week to go over the facts before it goes to court. Im calling everybody I know with lifted rigs at school to see who else got pulled over by him. Bad thing is I have the only one in the senior lot :(

Yup. And the security guard loves me. I told him about my ticket and he just laughed. He hears storys about Williams all the time. I just talked to a ton of people and found a ton of reports of people getting ridiculous tickets from him. This is going to be fun :)

Can you get a pic of how the mud flaps mount? I need to start thinking about adding some to my rig.
I have the Trail Flap kit by ORI. They are local and a great product and Cash is the man! First thing to know is if you do not have trimmed fenders it probably will not work.

I started by mocking them up and found I had to trim the exhaust hanger to mount as far back as I could.

With it mounted up. I have at an angle so it is as far away from the tire as possible.

With a flap on

Flaps on larger tubes. Shove into ends of receiver hitch tube. Figure out a way to fasten them. Done. :D

Why not just fab up a flap system that plugs into the trailer hitch reciver? Same idea as motorhomes but maybe collapsible/telescoping. Just a spur of the moment idea....but might take up too much room. Plus to keep them from bending, (under the wind stress caused by speed and muflap drag) they would have to be made out of steel or some other stronger metal, therfore it would probably weigh quite a bit.

Like I said just an idea.
