Why do I have to scan through posts about 1999 XJ's? I guess what I am getting at can the forums be sectioned into years? I read through the other posts for later models and get ideas, but aren't really the same thing.

Negative. The forums are split up based upon modifications or question types for a reason. Many questions apply to multiple years, including late model and earlier xj's.
