I hate Insurance Companies!

Give them hell!!! and if it makes it to the news make sure we get a link!

If I do, if I can, I will. Thanks everyone.

Please keep us updated.

And as another resource, let your states insurance commisioner know about the scandel as well. They are able to exert extreme pressure.

I sent the Forms U.S. Postal Service Overnight. They signed for it and picked it up on the June 15th at 9:15am, a day before the 16th. They claim they did not get it until the 18th. The only address I had was on the Forms that stated "Mail To:" a P.O. Box. Now, they said I should have sent it to their "Overnight Address". There was only one address to send it to. They picked it up a day before the due date and they claim it was 2 days late.

I'm really worried. I have been canceled now for 10 days. In Florida, Insurance Companies must report Insurance Cancellations to the DMV. The DMV will revoke my Driver's License if I do not report having new Insurance.

I just got up. Stayed up until 4am to get ready for Apartment Inspections today. Hard to do anything in a small apartment when 3 teenage children are doing their best to destroy it. These inspections are so thorough and it seems they want it to look like "Homes and Gardens" perfect. We have them every 3 months.

I'm going to call the Better Business Bureau as soon as I eat my eggs and toast and have a couple cups of coffee. Then call AARP and tell them I called the BBB and that this is just unacceptable. I will be forceful and tell them I will be seeking Legal Options if this is not resolved and if I am not reinstated. I will tell them I will also contact ABC or even FOX News and their Consumer Advocate Departments.

Please, if you pray, say a short one for us. If you don't, put it to the universe. Thank you.

I'm from Calif. and as you know things are a bit different here on the left side.
Good luck getting this straightened out. It's just not right!
You paid for 6 months and got canceled after 4? What made them even think about you? Some companies don't like to insure anyone with teenagers of driving age even when they are not licensed, maybe that's what happened. If any of the kids drive, are they on your policy? Has an agent seen your Jeep? I'm of the "Don't ask, don't tell" school of modification. I know another poster had bad experiences with Met. Life Auto, but they worked well when we had teenagers at home. No surcharge for non-licensed people, no surcharge for "learners permit" drivers and they didn't charge extra when our son's first car was a 2 seat "sports car" when all he carried was liability.

Keep us posted,
Mike

I've been in Insurance for the last year. I'm licensed in all lines of insurance. I hate that all insurance gets black balled because of one company. I've never heard of an experience like this and hate that you're having these problems. You will get refunded the unearned premium.

As far as Hartford. File a complaint with the state. All insurance is regulated through the state, in any state. Any policy offered in any state has to be approved by that state. Just call and file a complaint. Get the proof to them and that company will have to address the complaint.

If enough complaints are filed the state will boot them. The insurance company doesn't want that.

Most insurance companies want OUT of Florida especially the car insurance and housing insurance parts...

True. I think Citizens is the largest home owners insurane co. in FLA. Thats the FLA Gov and they dont want anthing to do with insurance.

It's a good thing FLA is a No-fault state for auto ins. I have a friend that got rear-ended twice in one year. Both times the drivers were in the country illegaly and had no insurance. Nothing happened to the drivers of the other vehicles because they were in the country illegaly.

I guess you cant process a person that doesn't exsist.

Thanks everyone!

Only I am on the insurance and they have never seen my Jeep or asked if was modified.

I did call the Better Business Bureau for Western Florida last week. All I got was an automated response directing me to go to the BBB website and write a complaint. Did that.

Then I called AARP and told them I called the BBB and that this is just unacceptable. They transferred me to their Auto Insurance Department which turned out to be Hartford.

Explained everything again, agent tried to help but the supervisor would not talk to me and told her not to send it to another underwriter. I got forceful and told her I will be seeking Legal Options if this is not resolved and if I am not reinstated. I also told her I will also contact ABC or even FOX News and their Consumer Advocate Departments. She said she would forward this to Hartford's Consumer Affairs Department so I would not have to write them and mail it to their P.O. Box. I said thank you and that I appreciated all she did and was doing for me.

Well.......

Hartford's Consumer Affairs Department called me today and told me my Auto Insurance was reinstated back to April 16th and she asked me some questions about their service. I answered honestly and said I really appreciated the agents that did try to help me out. She also asked me about any tickets or accidents (I have a clean license and never had an accident). She then redid my policy and gave me a yearly quote. Believe it or not it was only $700 a year instead of 1200 to $1400 I have been paying over the last few years. She said I could expect a Refund Check in the mail for the difference.

Thank you everyone for all your advice and suggestions. I couldn't have done it without you people. I am very grateful.

Hey, that is some of the best news of the day, it is rotten of them to have allowed it to go this far, but it seems that you are better off for their problem.

Good work on your part.

Mike

Impressive, most impressive, Obiwan has indeed you taught you well.

There is no love lost between me and insurance companies. I consider insurance payments to be like burning greenbacks for reading light during the daytime.

I just read the entire thread (got into this fray a bit late). If it were me, I would consider that the original problems were an early warning sign of potential future worse problems with Hartford, and started looking for a new insurance company, or agent. Interesting to hear that AARP is just a member dues paid front for Hartford insurance. I joined AARP last year and 99% of what I got back was nice pretty, colorful advertising for insurance companies. I did not renew.

Hartford just accepted a huge chuck of federal TARP money (US Treasury loans from the TARP bail out of Wall Street) to help boost their capital due to stock market investment losses backing their life and annuity policies. Their stock is selling for 0.15 cents on the dollar of last years high.

My concern would be that if it was that hard to give them your business and money, consider how hard it would be to collect anything if you needed them. Even if all you have is liability insurance, you still want a company that will defend you if the accident was not your fault (I don't know how no-fault works, we don't have it here in Texas).

While I hate insurance companies, I hate State Farm the least. Been with them for 36 years. My parents had them for years too.

I would have called State farm first, asked them for a better quote, help, and ideas. Then called AARP since they are the commission earning agent. I never waste my time with BBBs. BBBs are run by the businesses they supposedly help police.

The state insurance regulatory agency might help, but it is a long term option, slow, painful, but depending on who is running the show they may be staffed by insurance people (In which case you are still screwed) or by real regulators (or maybe even by someone that hates Hartford :eyes:). If you get lucky they can be Hartford's worst nightmare.

Many here suggested threatening Hartford ( or maybe even AARP) with legal action. Just doing that might be enough to scare off insurance agents, and underwriters from trying to help you, or insure you. Who wants to insure some one that is already threatening them with a law suite? However, letting them know that you might be willing to set up a web site and declare war by creating a place for disgruntled ex-Hartford customers like you to post their own war stories might get someone attention. I have no doubt that this single internet thread will cost Hartford lots of money over the coming years, far more than they cost you.

I once got screwed over by a bank (Chase). 22 years ago they started mailing credit card bills 1-2 days before they were due ( I was sure they were doing it to everyone, as it happened 2 months in a row to me before I caught on to there new game). This was just after they raised the late fees from about $5 to $25/statement. I went to my local library and looked up the public mailing address of the CEO of Chase Bank in the public reference section of Standard and Poors guide to public companies. Then I mailed him a nice letter with copies of the statement date and the post mark on the bill to prove my case. I suggested that it must be an oversight, computer glitch (Ya right) in there system, and I offered him the chance to fix the problem before I forwarded to the then, Federal banking regulators (they called them Bank Examiners then, banks feared those guys back then). A few days later I got a phone call from the executive secretary of the CEO of Chase Bank asking what she could do to help. She was most apologetic, and said they had made sure it would not happen again. She gave me her direct phone number and told me to call her if I had any more problems.

Now that you have them where you want them, I would see if State Farm is available in Florida, and if it is cheaper than your latest offer from Hartford.

And hang in there, being a single parent is real tough, :banghead:I know, but it can be rewarding.;)

State Farm has been under investigation here in Florida. They refuse to hand over Documents. They were blocked from selling Auto Insurance for a while until they Appealed it and were given permission to stay in Business until it goes to Court.

Since they are under Suspicion, I am going to stay away from them.

Thanks any way.

What are they under investigation for?

Scamming out of paying for hurrican damage IIRC by falsifying damage causes, and they've been know for some time to repair older and/or lower end vehicles with sub standard components that can take damage much more easily than even a JY sourced OEM component.
