If Christians are wrong, what have they lost?
If Atheists are wrong, what have they lost?

Let's put it this way. I say that me and any other monotheist are both atheists at heart, I just happen to believe in one less 'god'. :D

This thread is still stupid.

My usual response for these people is the following:

In deepest Africa, there's a tribe that has never heard the word of God, or about the Lord Jesus Christ. One day, a little girl wanders away from the tribe's village into the bush; she's attacked and eaten by a lion. Are you saying that this poor little girl was created by God solely to be eternally condemned to hell simply because she had never heard His word before dying through no fault of her own?
Any Christian who believes this doesn't know what the Bible says. Yes, it's addressed and can be found in Romans.

That usually causes them to stammer incoherently for a while, then go someplace quiet where their heads can pop in peace. I'm a Christmas & Easter Episcopalian, but the prayer-everywhere lunatics annoy me as much as the moonbats who get incensed over being wished a Merry Christmas. Same intolerant s***, different wrapper.

I think if I tried to go that route, I'd end up screwing it up a la Tim Taylor. I really can't afford to make more of an ass outta myself. :chef:

This here is some funny stuff. Normal humans against those that believe in fairy tales. This is just too damned funny. Keep it going guys, this is good stuff. :)

Also GS I don't know where you live, but the U.S. is absolutely a Judeo/Christian country. 80% of Americans believe in God.
Those statistics really don't paint an accurate picture. Just because 80% believe in God doesn't make them Christians. When those same 80% were asked things such as do they believe Jesus is the Son of God and other question concerning fundamental doctrines of Christianity, well over half said no.

There is no "God" per se...

Only THE Goddess...

I will try something different. Instead of debating points, this is what I meant. Religion can't be separated from people. Since I live around people, I am going to live around religion. I don't mind. It's all good. There are religious references everywhere. One thing I will admit, is that it bothers me that atheist and agnostics think the constitution means freedom FROM religion. It does not, nor is it even possible. Christmas isn't going anywhere. Get over it.

The fact that religion has some good moral points does not mean religion is right or true. People in general have a pretty consistent idea of what is generally right and wrong. Over a long period of time we have sort of figured out what is good for man and society and what is not. Religion does not win any points for having a couple of those things in it.

I can't stand how the religious right complains of the leftist liberal activist judges , then turns right around and employs the same tactics. I am sick of the right wing wachos using the courts and politics to make me believe in their invisible man. I have my own invisible man and he works great for me.

80% of Americans believe in something. I did not mean 80% were practicing Christians nor am I one. Most believe in "A" God or something and most have heard of Jesus. So this is generally a Christian country. Hindu, Budism, Muslims, and anything else make a very small minority. The sad thing is that most are decent good people. The whacko left and lunatic right both have agendas. They are dragging the rest of us into the mud with them. They divide, and draw lines. The original poster hasn't even commented since posting, yet here we are on each side of the fence.

I'm tired of the left trying to make me as miserable and free of responsibility for any of my actions like them. I am tired of the right forcing me to accept Jesus as my personal lord and savior, or burn in hell if I don't. People pray to a God. Guys kiss other guys. If you don't believe in one of those, then don't do it. Just leave me the Fawk out of it. I'll shut up now.

Nicely put.

It was said in an earlier post that religion was the number one cause of wars. That’s easy to understand. The first poster mentioned God and there are 5 pages and still going.

If I was going to vote for a number two cause of war it would be one ruler’s wife jealous of another ruler’s wife.

dude.... gross

but seriously i think you have some good points there. I went to a catholic school for 9 years and was an alter boy for about 4. (I swear NOTHING HAPPENED). I believe that the religious structure helped me develop into the person i am today and improved my education. That being said, i havnt gone to mass since 8th grade and my believes about religion coincide with what Hobo said about people believing in fairy tales.

My initial post was not to defend Christianity as the religion of the nation.

My main point was that as a nation, we waste time and governmental legislation efforts on insignificant minute issues that in reality don't affect anyone's quality of life adversely. Just like this thread.

And I'll re-iterate:

Oddly enough "In God We Trust" has not been removed from the dollar bills you spend each and every day... Given that fact; What religion truly runs this country??? ;)

Nobody has yet to respond to this point... :)

I'll respond very briefly. I agree, there's no quality of life effect from anybody handling money that mentions God, and that may explain why few people make an issue of it, and those who do are probably fools. Other intrusions of religion do affect quality of life, whether in small or large ways, so people respond to them with at least some justification. Being made to utter prayers or religious sentiments when one does not share them is an imposition. Small or not, it is still an imposition. It's a small annoyance to have to put up with, but it ought also to be equally small and easy to eliminate. If something is wrong, its triviality is a poor argument for not stopping it.

Christianity is the majority religion of the nation, and in another sense it is the religon of our country's culture, and people who try to eradicate it or suppress it or pretend it isn't are fools. But that is not quite the same thing as being the religion of the nation.
