i got pulled over today

well anyway I dug up another picture of mine with the flares... again, never been pulled over ...

I was only pulled over once for the flares but I pretty much stopped right in front of the guy at a road block. He had nothing better to do. He just gave me a warning. So, the BW that I already had went on the next day.
 
Ive never been pulled over for anything goin on with my jeep. A cop saw me turn around after passing him, and pulled me over for acting suspicious, and MENTIONED that he could get me for tires, but let me go without much of a fuss.

I think in PA...when they say the 3" thing, that means the FLARE cant extend more than 3" past the body lines. Also...sometimes the state cops will take a penny and place it against your flare and let it drop straight down. If it hits your tire...they got you...if they are being that strict.

The bumper height and tire thing screwed Lee awhile back. He tried to register it as a truck...which they wouldnt let him do. There are guidelines to what you can register as. It might depend on the place you go to try to change it...Im not sure. But....the XJ is technically listed as a station wagon. You CAN get them to list it as a MPV (multi-purpose vehicle). That will give you some wiggle room with your bumper height. But again, that might depend on where you go, and you'll end up arguing with a cop about it most likely.

I really got into the technical specs about the laws when Lee had trouble, and there really are some detailed things in the books. Like not being able to extend your bumper down...they measure bumper height from the mounts etc etc.

For what its worth, we put rear rubicon flares on the front of Lee's jeep, and they covered 33"x 12.5 tires on Crager soft 8's perfectly.

It looks to me like regular TJ rear flares will be enough to cover the back tires...never got around to installing those.

Its a bummer to try to modify anything in PA...cars trucks or jeeps. Only gonna get worse.

Hey guys, Lee here, like Justin said I did get pulled over/followed by a cop in West Chester one day. He actually followed me for about a mile to the back of my apartment complex then he told me my bumper was too high. When I asked what the legal height should be his wonderful answer was "I don't know"! Found out that the maximum height the bumper could be off the ground is only 22" because as Justin said Jeep did us a favor and registered them as station wagons. Anyway in checking the legal codes there is a multi-purpose passenger vehicle where the rear bumper can be 26" and 24" for the front, however I called the local police station about this and they basically told me two things. First, bumper height usually is not an issue, and second that interpretation doesn't really hold water. If we are to be truely legal then we should have fender flares less than 3", extremely low bumpers and mud flaps, which are also in the code. I haven't had trouble in about 2 years, but I have watched cops plug my license plate info into their computers looking for some reason to pull me over. It is definitely not getting any easier to modify your vehicle in PA.
 
on some jeeps i like them. on others i dont. hopefully they look good on mine. tj flares wouldnt have covered enough of my tire. the bushwackers still dont even cover the whole tire, so im putting on 31's for the place to check that im good, and then back to 33's.
 
so i got the front installed easily. the backs.....im stumped. from what i gathered in the directions they want me to cut the seem, but only on the sides, the top and corners do not cut through the seem. this is also harder because i cut and folded the rears. is there an easier way for me to do this?
 
my pullover was in LP township on Egypt Road near Trooper Rd., by a township cop. not a lot of crime in LP, so i guess he didn't have much else to do...
 
wow, I didn't realize there were so many NAXJA guys so close...
I work in Worcester, I have been through both of those places in my Rig tons of times and now I am nervous...:eyes:
 
You guys are all over near me. I live in East Norriton and the company I work for, the shop is in Worcester. I just got my 2000 XJ on 1.5 weeks ago, but don't plan on doing anything to it to attract the attention of police. I have a CJ-8 that will do that when I get done with it, been sitting for 6 years, ARB'ed 44's have been sitting for 10 years :looney:
