i have been researching about hydro assist and have decided to go with the surplus center setup. the only question i have is should i get the 1 inch rod diameter or 3/4 inch? i am putting it on my d44 with 35" tires and stock pump. any input is appreciated!

i am looking at the 1.5x8 ram. so would the 1 inch rod be fine with my setup and that size ram?

you'll want a 6" throw with a d44 IIRC. 8" is use with a 60

Where did you come up with that?

Just turn the steering hard right. Mark the tie rod to a static point and turn to the hard left and measure.

Everyone's set up is different. With 7.125" high steer arms I need a 7 3/4" ram on my D44. With my king pin 609 and 6" arms I need 6.375" of stroke.

PSCs cylinders are mostly offered in 6 and 8" throws, and I could have sworn that was the reason behind it. I know everyone's setup is different, maybe what I recalled was just one particular person's experience, possibly 6" with a hp44 OTK and 8" with a chevy d60. :dunno:

Sorry Travis...it really does depend on your setup.

Basically, the distance between the TRE mounts on the knuckle to the BJ/KP dictate how much throw you need. There are different length high steer arm lengths, stock knuckle lengths, etc.

im running a high steer arm that the drag link attaches to. the tie rod is in the stock location with the stock ford dana 44 knuckles. i guess i will have to measure it when i get a chance

I'd go with the smaller 3/4" rod. The issue is the volume difference in the cylinder, a 1" rod in a 1.5" cylinder doesn't leave much volume, and the difference in volume between turning one way or the other will be more......volume with rod all the way in vs volume with the rod all the way out. Length of cylinder depends on your particular steering throw, like has already been said. I use an 8" ram, but my axle yokes have been clearanced considerably for tighter turning, and I built the arm mount locations exactly where I wanted them for my situation.

Yeah, I wasn't trying to argue that. I was just trying to figure out how/why I was under that assumption before cracker clarified it
