Hunters/archers

Believe it or not, I'm taking my WI hunter's ed test tomorrow. (Remember last year when I posted the "offensive" pic from the course?) Indiana requires Hunter's Ed if you're born after 1/1/86 and I was born prior, so I never took it.

No more mentor hunting for me this year, but that's still a really cool program. You can hunt with someone having only one gun or bow between you and stay within 10' of each other. Gets people the experience before/while they take the course.

And of course having taken hunter's ed will be nice to have gotten out of the way before I ever go out of state.

So, the guy who did my testing said he had tested 10 or 11 people tonight and I was his first 100%. So kudos to me!

Very nice! Makes you feel good, eh? My kids (10 and 12 at the time) ranked in the top five of there class of 30, it was lost to them but not me!

Congrats!

Yeah, the validation is nice. Especially when I look at it like how I've been hunting for over 15 years and now I have to be tested on it... I know that I know my stuff, but it's still a test. Still an exact criteria to be met. I had a touch of nerves just because of that.

Woods are officially scouted well enough. I have a 3 sided blind set up near the convergence of about 4 different routes the deer have been taking and spotted on the game cams.

I got my bow at the shop for a new string and some arrow work. Really hoping it's done by Thursday so I can head up anytime Friday. I'm gonna take a couple pics of the set-up I'll be sitting in this weekend.

Better than late. And archery in Wisconsin started a couple weeks ago... So, I guess I was late anyway.

Here was my office Saturday and Sunday. Other than the fact that my chair is super firm, it's quite comfortable to spend the day in there when you've got lunch and water.

Caught this guy on camera. Now I'm freezing my butt off waiting to see him in person.

My 7 yr old son shot a nice 9 pt for his first deer kill saturday. What makes it even more special was it was on our own farm and it was 1 shot w/ a 22-250 and it was a kill shot. He is still beaming. It went to the taxidermist today. Pics to come soon.

Awesome. I can't wait tlfor my daughter to turn 10, the youngest you can hunt in WI. She wants to bear hunt so I am saving up my points for her.

Is it allowed for kids to be in the woods mentor style while not hunting to gain some experience before being able to get a license?

As long as they don't have a firearm I believe its ok. At 10 they can mentor hunt but no shooting before that. I have 5 years to go and already have her gun ;)

My .243 will likely be Harrison's first hunting rifle. I've had it since he was 8mo old :D

Though, I didn't think about that when I bought it. His first actual firearm will probably be a bolt action, single shot .22LR.

He already knows how to shoot us with Nerf guns, but his hands are too small to hold them properly. He'll learn how to shoot with my .177 pellet gun when the time comes. I'm anxious for that stuff.

Case and his deer....he is still on cloud 9. He wants to go again during regular season so he can "show me where the good deer come out at" according to him :D He is a crack shot, single shot fired from a 22-250 and it was lethal.
