im with Kman. we all get lucky, or maybe they feel bad for us.

actually, i just think woman need a project, kind of like our jeeps. they need something to work on and fix. :D

central Michigan is a tough area to find big deer. I went 20 years of sitting in the woods and the biggest Central MI deer I've brought home was an 8. funny how they always look bigger when they're alive.
funny how they always look bigger on TV.

i think its location. up here there area lot of hardwoods and food is scarcer during the winter. down south they have the agricultural fields to take advantage of during the warmer months to fatten up, and the winters dont tend to be as harsh. thats also a large contributing factor to why the population is much denser in the south. but, long story short, ive seen some big dear down between lansing and ann arbor. my GFs cousin took a monster earlier this year out of the fowlervile area.

There's no reason to complain about rifles. I hunted in Indiana for 15 years without using a rifle. My dad has been hunting for about 20 years in Indiana. We take something home every year. Sometimes it's a 100# doe, sometimes its a 175# field dressed 8-pointer and everything in between. The only rifles we ever used were muzzleloaders.

to make things more sporting, we have dug punji pits across all of our farms and we are going to try and herd the deer to them next season....and shrink their heads too.

OH does not allow high power stuff either. But most all of the slug shotguns have rifled barrels and scopes these days.
Most guys zero them at 50 yards and they're good to 100-125 before the big slugs really lose energy.

Indiana has big deer too. I'm not complaining, I prefer bow hunting, but central mi and north is hghly populated on Nov.15th by southerners. Slayin deer!

I got two squirrels yesterday!

:D

had venison chilli last night before skinning/quartering my deer. we waited a while, it was cold enough. today, made it into a couple roasts, some thick steaks, and my personal favorite, back strap medallions! the rest was ground, got about 5lbs of hamburger meat, and the ther 5lbs was made into sausage! haha. we had some sausage mix stuff, and i freestyled about 1/2lb of links. damn tastey.

way ahead of ya bud. ;)

threw about a lb of bacon into my sausages too, because the venison is so lean.

hunted a different spot tonight, set up my stand yesterday. state land, outside edge of a swamp. guy who owns the agecent land has a feeder im told. there are a lot of signs of deer in the area. LOTS of trails leading out of the swamp, lots of raisins, and even found a few old rubs.

saw 2 big body dear about 150-200 yards off. the snow and different ground cover is nice. i can hear them before they are right under me. lol. hunting the next two days and them heading to boyne for new years. hopefully ill get another one before the end of the season.
