I have a rough country adjustable track bar that is good for lifts up to 6.5". I'm putting it in my comanche with a 6.5" lift. what length does it need to be, and how would I go about figuring that out?
One of the better ways to center the axle is to have the trackbar off one of the ends(the adjustable one) and get in the Jeep and jerk the steering wheel back and forth a couple of time and let it settle then adjust it to the length that fits.
you vehicle will sit still with the track bar removed, and most likely the axle will be centered just sitting there with the wheel straight.
Take some accurate measurements, look at the gap between the inside of the shocks and the unibody rail. If one shock is 3" away from the frame, and the other shocks is touching the frame... then you know the axle is off to one side.
Get the axle centered, then bolt the track bar up.
Done. Its easy as pie.
depends on if the steering wheel was centered before you replaced the track bar, and the track bar was the only thing changing. If yes, then yes it should be centered. If you are changing the track bar to move the axle, then your wheel will be off.
I had an adjustable track bar with the stock bracket drilled out, I then went to a hd bar with bracket. Steering wheel is almost perfect but not totally centered and I think the axle is centered pretty well So i have no idea if its correct or if I could adjust a little more to get the steering wheel perfect.
If your axle is centered and that is where you want it, then bolt in the track bar and leave it. If you want to adjust the steering wheel a bit more, loosen up the adjustment on the draglink and re-adjust that.

This method worked when I had the stock control arms on.
However, when I added the RockKrawler long arms, this method did NOT work. When I moved the steering wheel to allow the axle to center itself it just STAYED where I let off. It did not move back to center.
So I had to eye ball it and measure to get it centered
I had to jack the truck up from the frame, then set it back down. now it's off by less than a half inch, and isn't getting any closer as I it is turned as far down as possible.
It's getting a front end alignment on monday, and the place I'm taking it to knows what to do as they do offroad trucks alot (mainly xj's and yj's being a jeep dealer).
and i know, i know....dealership prices. BUT i'm friends with the owner so it's actually gonna be cheap/free
petey, I did that but it was off by 1.5" via the wiggle method. now it is 3/8" off (extends more towards pass side), but the trackbar has been adjusted all the way down to where I can't screw it in any farther...

it wont be a problem. when i did my axle swap i found out my d30 was about an inch off center for 2 years! lol and i didn't notice any ill effects. it just made some funny noises every once in a while
