I'm currently in the process of repainting my jeep following Eric's xj write up and making a few upgrades at the same time. The quarter glass I had on my jeep was purple due to the cheap window tint the PO had. The glass is fairly easy to remove with a few panel tools or flat head screw drivers. Now here is a trick I saw on Trucks TV that actually works.
First here is a comparison shot of the two pieces of glass. The old one has the stickers.
All you need is a length of rope long enough to go all the way around the window, some tape, and a lovely assistant.
Feed the rope inside the window seal all the way around the gasket. Bringing the two ends together at the bottom of the glass.
You will also notice that the rope opens up the gasket a bit. This will help starting the bottom of the seal on the body.
Tape the left over ends of the rope to the glass so the don't dangle down as you are lining it on the body.
Next line the glass up into the opening, making sure to center it, and lay the bottom edge of the gasket over the metal lip of the body. Have your assistant hold the window in place as you go inside for the rest of the installation.
From the inside undo the rope and start pulling one side towards you. It's best to pull the rope towards the center of the glass. As the rope is pulled it lifts and pulls the rubber gasket over the metal edge of the opening. Here are some process pics with a few close ups.
Hope that helps some of you guys who bust a window out on the trail.
