how many of you run 37's

ran 36" TSLs locked up front...no breaks...about to run another set matter of fact...broke 2 short shafts on 35s thought :)

rob707 runs 37s right . he ran 39s for a long time. no real breakage. a truss, chromos, and crto gears help though. the only breakage i know of on his rig was a chromo shaft in johnson valley on 39s at like 2am on a waterfall.

I see... I'm a bone stock 30 so..... When I do break its only shafts right at the ujoint ears...

you wont get stuck as much with 37s. put a HD cover on, weld up a truss(just make your own out of some 2x4 tubing or DOM or something) and call it good. plus the stock shafts remain the weak point and not the R&P.

truss it too ! grab some steel and build a truss- i just used whatever was lying aroudd at the time and took my time welding to the cast . its worth a couple hours of cutting and welding. tie it into the pass side uca mount, box that in, too and tie that into the coil bucket. i ripped a pass side uca mount on the con in july.boxing it and a truss would have been nice. that was the same trip that i came back with metal in the oil and a toasted pinion bearing and toasted oil slinger. i wonder if i had a truss on at that time if i wouldnt have gotten the ring gear delflection to chew up the oil slinger and most likely took out the pinion bearing or at least all the metal in there did.

truss: benefit > cost.

yeah, not an XJ, but it has 37" toyos, 4.88's, and arb's f/r, and a disco 30 with the cable actuator kit.

This was at Robbs Roost a few years back just before running the Con'. No breakages this trip or the one before it.
The rig is still around with the same tires on it but I fear the motor gave up the ghost, its been parked for a year or so by the new owner.

An open 30 with 37's will last a lot longer then a 30 with a locker.

Once you bind a 37" tire with a locker something will have to give.

Stock axles will break first, up grade the axles and u-joints and you will move your weak point to the small ring and pinion. Not only are you looking at binding a tire but the extra weight of the wheel will put more stress on your drive train and all your suspension and steering parts too. Getting the tire to fit under is only one issue, you must remember all the other parts that are not built up for that kind of strain.

I ran 37's on a 30 for a few years, never with stock axle shafts, but I broke a lot of parts too.

O chit.. :explosion

sounds like its not "if" it will break, but more of a "when" it will break and "what will break" combinded with a "how often" depending on
