How did you install your subs

I'm going to go ahead and admit that I tried to do my install myself (no stealth box). I wired it all according to the directions, hooked up the power to the battery last and...............nothing. Went through troubleshooting and everything and couldn't figure it out. I gave up and it's at a shop today getting a pro install :)...i'm just bummed I couldn't do it on my own. I have a hunch the used amp is fried...

do you have a multimeter? nearly impossible to diagnos an electrical curcuit without one. find where you have power and where it stops.

I thought I killed my amp, but the remote wire just came out of its butt connector.

I rechecked all the wires and basically ended when I couldn't electrical test anything. The shop is giving me an extraordinary deal for install since I bought the wiring from them initially and I'll be going back for getting my scratched up tinting redone

Not sure why there is all this talk about having to go through the fire wall....personal preference I guess. Battery is on the pass. side and there happens to be an oblong cutout on the inside of the engine bay. That leads to the inner fender and if your route the 4 ga or 2 ga power wire through that with a coat hanger you come out right by the door jam where all the wires for the power window, locks go into the cab. Slice the oval grommet and insert the power wire to get inside the kickpanel and then run the wire along the bottom of the floorboards behind the trim to the rear cargo area.

Personally, I wouldn't mount an amp under the rear seat if you can help it, unless that amp is super bad ass and is stable to 1/2 ohm and thermal overload would be non issue (like the old art series ppi's and U.S. amps that were actually used in hospitals to power lazers). Of course amps like Jl audio out there are top notch......anyway, point is try to have more exposed air to the amp instead of an insulated, sealed off area like under the rear seat.

Here is how I did mine....pic of the cargo area box under my cargo rack:

I know, it looks big but I used it as a place to keep my amps, dummy cavaties for the amps, capacitor and sound processor with fans mounted at the top to draw the air out when the back seat is lock into position. Then all you have to do is feed the negative ground to the seatbelt bolts and it's good:

factory infinity amps are mounted under the rear seat. why not?

I moved my amp under the rear seat, I like that its out of the way but don't like it being in there with spare shafts.

Crappy Pic but you get the idea.

I just found a grommet on the drivers side fender well under the column and ran the power feed through there. I have it grounded on the bolt that holds the rear seat backing to the body.

No, I don't have one yet :(

I'm just starting to build my tool garage though! I only have limited knowledge on circuit boards.

gotcha, but they only cost about 30$ and you dont need to test the curcuit boards in the components, just power in and power out.

hope everything works out, its ussually something small and they will be able to find the problem quickly. probably a blown or missing fuse, or a loose wire.

I have a 600 2 channel amp and a 12" that have been sitting and wonder how you wired it up in your XJ? How can I connect to the battery and where did you place your amp? Ive searched and found many pictures but nothing on where a couple ideal places for these things would be.

I think what im trying to ask is how you got past the firewall and where did you ground.

Under the rear seat is a good place for a ground wire

3000 watts and 4 15's

:guitar::guitar::guitar::guitar::guitar::guitar:

... I did the same as philjeeper, works fine for me. 2 polk 12's and kenwood amp, 4ga wiring. sounds good enough for me :)

My buddy is running a wall of 6 Kicker SoloX's in his XJ 15k watts, 7 batteries and a beastly alternator. 3k is overkill. 15k is RETARDED! He did get 5th in his Class at the Db Drags world finals a couple months ago.

I was gonna build a tool/sub box for my Jeep but my amp and 12 in sub are going in my newly acquired G-ride(88 Cadillac Coupe Deville) yay! more room for tools in the Jeep!

where did you get the cargo rack??

jesus, some of you guys have really nice systems!!! My 8 inch 100w system cost me only 200 bucks. Have it in an XJ-pod too.

not the best but ok so far, also still playing the original tape receiver with a 10disc Sony changer. Kicker amp and Interfire sub. You can also see my nice headliner

2 12" pioneer Premier Champion Pro Series 3000 watts a piece. 2400 watt RF amp and 0 gauge wiring. I did two seperate boxes so i can take one out when i need to haul stuff :)

this is similar to what I have, but I'm using one of those infinity bass link powered subs. Plenty good enough for my taste.

exactly....they are FACTORY. What are they driving, some 6.5's at most? Not really enough demand or ability to generate heat. Plus, everything the factory did wasn't always the best :)

where did you get the cargo rack??

I got it out of my junk pile. A buddy of mine threw out his futon (japanese for shitty sleep) and it had been sitting out in my back yard for awhile. One day, I looked at it and though to myself, that would make a sweet cargo rack. So I chopped it up and made the cargo rack. Here is a better pic, you can tell where I had to shorten the two panels since it was about 6" too long. The left side shows a difference in spacing between the cross bars

cargorack1.jpg

I basically cut both panels, shortened and welded them. Then cut all the cross bars out from the other panel that I used as the "top rail". Took 4 of the cross bars that I had cut out of the top panel and used those as spacers to house the eye bolts and bolted it together. A little bondo and rustoleum to hide welds, cuts and dings and it didn't come out half bad.
