Hood vents best location?

To resurrect an old thread, I am wondering why more people don't place their hood vents off to the side as depicted by the red XJ in Tim_MN's post. Seems like doing so would avoid having them directly above the sensors located more toward the middle of the engine bay. Is there are reason why most everyone installs them closer to the ceneter line of the hood?

I think most poeple put the hood vents near the center because almost everywhere else you have to deal with the inner hood reinforcements, plus, the heat flows towards the firewall.

I bought the Napier vents. They recommend the hole to be about 4x5 inches. I think I can cut a 20 sq. inch triangular hole to address the structural supports off to the side at the rear of the hood which is what I am going to do.
