RichP said:Had one 04 that was a total scumbag, would always take advantage of his rank to jump in line at the PX, chow, food line, whatever, called him on it one day and his response was 'I'm an officer and a gentleman' to which I added 'by act of congress maybe but in my case it's strictly thru breeding and upbringing', amazingly he had no clue what I meant, gotta wonder how people like that get put in positions of power...
I´m not a leader, but always seemed to float to the lower middle management level (foreman or there abouts), because most ways, I was competant (sometimes it´s necessary :laugh3: ) I´m a tech. by disposition, a problem solver. Not a leader.
So my critisims may be from a viewpoint of ignorance.
But "loyalty" in the officers corp and/or management. is sometimes carried to the extreme. My last unit was so totally terminally ill, form the baduns, even the guduns, couldn´t get it right again. About the time I left, most of the good soldiers were long gone, at least in my area and what were left were coolies. And going to war with coolies, scared me to death. Decided it was time to leave, was also affraid the next unit was gonna be like the last. I wasn´t gonna sign a blind contract.
I showed up in Ryhad and an Officer said, you should have called, we would have picked you up at the airport (one of the guduns). I said no sweat, I drove up. How did you draw a vehicle? No sweat it´s mine. What do you mean it´s yours, yes mine, I drove it here from Frankfurt. Second officer, you can´t do that, Uuh OK if you say so (badun). It was worth the gas, just to see the look on There faces. I figured transpotation was gonna be scarce, every officer with the pull would have his own and didn´t fancy having to travel to remote sites as a hitchhiker, with three 200 pound gang boxes full of tools and parts.
Honor and Integrity or Ingenuity and Practicality. Got to find a balance.
