homemade axle disco questions

Has anyone ever fabricated their own axle disco out of bicycle cable or what not?I've heard of this setup mentioned before and am trying to get some design tips so I can build my own.I don't want to spend 200.00 on the posi-lock because I'm fairly confident I can fab one for way less,I just need some ideas so any help will be appreciated.Thanks

I found this site when I was browsing the one day. I will do something like this when the weather warms up. I would like to make the vacuum switch a little neater though.
