Hollow or remove?

I am in Eddy, south of Waco and no emmissions test on inspection.

My cat converter is rattleing real bad and driving me crazy... probably not helping the rough idle or power either.

$200 to replace with a generic. Looks like maybe previously replaced... has flange on one end and welded on the other.

Not sure if I can find anyone that will straight pipe replace it here :(

POSSIBLY can find someone to weld back if I hollow it out.

Any and all suggestions are DEEPLY appreciated! I am planning a 1000 mile roundtrip ride this weekend!

Wheres keith when you need him, I had mine just replaced with a straight pipe until I moved from Nac to Houston and then had to replace it.

I found a generic replacement online for under 100 bucks. I wouldn't run without a cat. Depending on year model it will cause a Check engine light, and it is better for the environment to run one. I don't like giving the green police extra fodder for their fights against us.

This is a subject that is covered on NAXJA occasionally and the bottom line is that we (as a club) won't endorse or reccomend any practice that is illegal. NAXJA will also delete threads where illegal practices are reccomended and issue a warning to the perpatrators. Repeat violators have had their forum privelages revoked.

Totally understand these sentiments. I will replace but I was just looking for a solution for this weekend's trip.

I found a replacement online and he promised I will receive it tomorrrow... Thursday. If that is true I will replace it Thursday evening in time for my trip?

Guess I did not realize there are no members here with staright pipes and just mufflers. Here in CenTex there are many trailer queens and DD's without them... modified by owners.
