Holcomb Creek: June 11th or 12th

Which way is harder? Lets do that way

:wierd:

East to West incorporates a couple of hill climbs. If you run West to East (text-book) you will be goin down these hills. Both large rock gardens can be interesting either way. West to East will come out on 3N14 which will allow you to run other trails, like maybe John Bull (time permitting). East to West comes out on 3N16, which you can also take to a few other trails.

We should see who/how many are coming. I enjoy running East to West, this way you end (finale) with a large rock garden instead of start with a large rock garden.

If we run East to West, we can meet at Fawnskin around 8:00, depart at 8:30. What do you guys think?

Robert

eh... hillclimbs.

Lets just run it the west to east way... sounds like itll make it easier to hit the other trails afterwards.

As for meeting spots... I was thinkin of some where before ya head up the mountain... then we can have a convoy and scare people in small cars

Dont matter to me... I just need to hit a gas station before the trail. cause i'll be low on fuel after the drive up there. Maybe we can just meet at a gas station by the trail? anyone know of a good one?

We can meet at the bottom, if everyone wants to take the 330 up the hill. There are 2 choices for gas stations right at the bottom. There is Arco at Foothill exit (I think that the name of the road). It's the last exit on the 30 BEFORE you get to the 330. There is a Cheveron on the last exit ON the 330, right before the 2 lane starts. We can meet at either one at 7:30 AM.

We can then meet others at Fawnskin around 8:30 AM.

I just got a confrimation from one of the KJ guys that they will be up there doing some pre-runs for their club. JJMATT3 had mentioned it earlier. I have ran several trails with these guys. Depending on how many XJ'rs go, maybe we could run with soem of the KJ's. Clint and JJ are great trail leaders. The KJ will definitely surprise you.

The KJ club is meeting at the Discovery Center at 8:30 AM on Saturday, June 11th.

Just a thought.

Robert

hmmm

sounds cool with me. I dont care what rigs i wheel with... as long as we gets to wheel!

(XJ's are nice though cause we all use the same spare parts)

Lets just do that... sounds easy.

8:30 at the discovery center.. wherever that is

Now who's all comming for sure?

OK, sounds great! 8:30 @ the Big Bear Discovery Center (http://www.bigbear.info/).

We will run Holcomb Creek trail. Lunch will be on the trail. CB channel 4, unless changed at meeting time. Vehicles should be prepared for trail [er NAXJA minimum requirements. Tow points front and rear, tow strap - NO metal hooks, full size spare, jack, first aid kit. Lift and armor highly recommended. I have seen stock XJ's with rear limited slip diff and armor run this trail.

This will NOT be a NAXJA sponsored run. If we run with the KJ club, we may need to sign their club waiver. I will communicate with a couple of their members.

SOOOOO....Who is coming?

Robert

Well I dont meet the minimum requirments (no spare) but im goin anyhow...

Why's we gotta sign waivers to go wheelin???? I knew cali was wierd like that, but a waiver before you run a trail is straight dank!

It's just a Hold Harmless form...not a big deal at all. Man there are not many clubs out there that don't ask you to sign one. Every single driver that has made any run with us has signed one. I promiss we do not turn these over to the FBI so you have no need to worry...hehehe. Later...Clint

So its an official KJ club run? I thought it was just some KJ's going to prerun a trail.

Eh.. whateva... I'll be there

Now lets say youre just driving down the same trail at the same time as them and in close proximity? :laugh3:

Yep, it's just a prerun for us for our Big Bear Event in June...But our club has always just gone ahead and had the driver sign one just in case. This is good ole So-Cal you know. Just helps to cut down on any problems. It's just a one time deal. later...Clint

I am not sure if the KJ club will request us to sign the form. It basically just releases the club from liability. If you run a sponsored NAXJA run, you will have to sign one there as well.

As for minimum requirements, I don't think anyone will not let you go with the group, but it may be a little hard to borrow parts depending on what breaks. Usually, you need tow points, tow strap, a jack, and a spare as a bare minimum. The spare is good idea, unless you have a plug kit. Then of course, there is the possibility the tire can not be repaired. A CB is usually a good thign to have, though I have ran trails with people that do not have them. We usually just put them in the middle of the pack.

On Holcomb & John Bull, I highly recommend some armor, like rock rails, gas tank skid, and even a t-case skid. Rocks do not forgive.

See you guys on the 11th at the Discovery Center. If anyone wants to meet in OC or at the bottom of the hill to caravan, let me know. I will be leaving Costa Mesa around 6:15 AM.

Thanks,

Robert

Although there really isn't any armor for the Drive Shaft. Other then slicing a side wall and a couple of scratches I made it thru on 31's and 3.5" of lift :yelclap:

Have fun.....

I would not run one on a DD if you drive over 50mph. Or unless it was in the front and the shaft did not turn.

I plan to run one in the front of mine, and will eventually run one in the rear once I becomes a trailer queen.
