HID's Or HAlogen bulbs...

I have been using the baja HID's for over a year with no issues. People occasionally flash me but the improvement in visibility is awesome. I found that with 4" off road lights the HID conversions put out a funky light pattern but other than that I have had no issues with them.

I don't understand why so many people have ballast issues. they don't like heat and they don't like getting smacked while they're energized, as long as you have them mounted securely they should last years. The set that is in my wife's car is going on 5 years old, the ones in my offroad lights lasted 4 years till the ballast came loose and went into the mechanical fan but that was my fault for poorly securing it :D I've only had 4 ballasts either bad out of the box or go bad over the 4 years i've been installing tony's kits... and it's been over 100 kits.

:dunno:

My rallye 4000s are going on 5 yrs as well......

I used to love my HEADLIGHT HID conversion, but then one day i was over it. Still love my converted rallye 4000's though.

Its still funny how people try to convince you that they'll be blinding people left and right, as cal mentioned, aim em down a bit, and that NEVER HAPPENS. I may run a pair on my new jeep, just for these people.

Yeah. Its not just the aim. The euro spec lenses help direct the light as well.

Also, i installed the conversion kits in my xj first, then a couple friends bought them for their jeeps... not all installations are the same, location of ballast, and grounds can make trouble, ive seen ballasts die from being slashed ONCE, and ive seen ballasts last 4 years or so (the ones on MY jeep). Not every install is the same, or even correct. If your lights flicker, AT ALL, youve gotta re-do your grounds to ground back to the negative battery terminal. Once i bashed this into a couple friends brains, their problems magically went away...

On my wife's van they were stuck down pretty securely inside the bumper just below the headlight but we could never get the flicker to go away. I exchanged ballasts but the flicker stayed on that light. It seemed to go from low to high randomly and vary in color.

The Jeep had one ballast go bad, sent in, got it back and same problem. Tried changing with the good one from the van and got tired of it. Oh well, I'll probably still go with some H4 bulbs later.

The Autopal Housings and the HID H4 bulbs seem to wiggle a bit and have a gap were dirt and debris enter the housing. It's kind of annoying to see dirt build up in the housing along with dust. I'm guessing that much room for the bulb to vibrate can cause the bulb to fail and not last as long as say a vehicle that is 99% of the time on road.
I can't remember how long i've had my HID kit but it barely saw any on road use and the offroad use that id did see was pretty rough. Did everything from JV, Big Bear, Rubicon, etc.

If i keep experiencing the same issues then ill make the switch back to H4 halogen Bulbs.

the light on HIDs is produced by an arc inside the bulb, not a filament. some flicker as the arc moves inside the firing chamber of the bulb is common and not a defect.

It was an obvious flicker while driving, It was like I had multiple temp bulbs, it tended to flicker purple, blue, white, and yellow. It was odd. But, Dodge's are also apparently odd with HID kits. The wiring in the van was opposite what the kit had and had to be figured out then switched on the kit.

Dodges suck nalgas for HIDS!!! its a total hit or miss, and for absolutely no ryhme or reason.... (newer ones primarily are the issue)

My IPF H4 with a 55W/60W "Fat Boy" bulbs are bright enough for me. Check out the difference in the pics below vs stock, it's astounding.

Keep in mind, these aren't two stock lights compared to two IPF lights. The photo on the left side is actually ONE IPF headlight, and I'm covering up the stock headlight. The photos on the right side are ONE stock headlight and I'm covering up the IPF.

on_the_curb.jpg

Even with one IPF (shown on the left) it lights up almost all the parking space.

up_the_road.jpg

Same with the road, one IPF lights up the whole road and even the curb on the right side (even though the IPF is in on the left side of the vehicle).

on_the_bricks.jpg

Same deal, you can barely see the ground with one stock light in this pic, but with one IPF it lights up the ground and floods the bricks and the curb.

across_the_streets.jpg

Really see the difference in the roadway, with just one IPF H4 Fat Boy.

on-a-dodge.jpg

Again, beleive it or not, the IPF is on the left side of the vehicle and I'm covering up the stocker on the right side of the vehicle, but it's lighting up the sidewalk on the right pretty good. No headlight on the right side at all.

down_the_road.jpg

Self explanaitory, the road is just all lit up. I think this is an atestment to how much stock housings/bulbs really suck, then to how good IPFs are :D.

I like how this shows how bright white these are compared to the muddy yellow of the stocker when you look at the white curb below the bricks. Not like a HID or anything, but I like em.

I have the Hella E-Code housings and Hella 85/110 bulbs well worth the money until I can get some LED headlights on the cheap

legal limit is 55w for low beams, you're blinding people just as bad as HIDs do because your jeep is lifted.

So its ok to blind people with HIDs but not with incandecents?

not sure how you got that from my post, im just stating a fact. people seem to think that putting a high wattage halogen in there is less blinding than an HID bulb, it's not.

I guess it was the "just as bad" part.

I like my 55/60w silverstars, with a harness. Bright enough to see, but not enough to blind people when adjusted. If some D-bag wants to brightlight me with hids, that's what the daylighters are for.

HID = I didn't get enough hugs as a child

I know but you gotta fight fire with fire - all those rice burners with the HIDs pointed to the sky can KMA! I haven't been flashed since they have been installed, a properly aimed headlight won't blind on coming traffic, but a pair of hella 4000s will :)
