Many of you will recall the near tragedy DJ dealt with for CO Fest '07 when his rear locker blew up at 70mph and spun him off the road just outside of Gunnison...... and ultimately left him without a rig to wheel for the entire event. Link: http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=926369
Well, this year DJ showed up for just the Friday dinner and raffle night intending to stay overnight and head back. So, he loaded up his Audi with a tent - arriving in town with a flat rear tire. He decided to deal with it Saturday morning, change the flat with the spare tire and head out right?..... Oh no, uh uh...... This is DJ we're talking about ya know.......
Yeah.... I had to tow his junk home and he drove my XJ home..... AGAIN!
He had a small piece of strap steel stuck in the center of the right rear tire. No biggie, swap out with the full size spare in the trunk right? WRONG. Full size spare looked fine until it was removed and the entire inside edge of the tread had been worn down past the steel belt and wouldn't hold air...... So, we go into Buena Vista Saturday morning, find a tire shop to have the flat fixed, guy tells us it'll take 30 minutes. No problem right? WRONG. We show up as scheduled a half hour later and he comes walking out holding the tire in one hand, the rim in the other - not a good thing. He shows us that DJ drove on it for a while apparently with low air pressure, rubbing off a substantial amount of rubber from the inside of the side walls exposing the nylon threads - tire is no good. He continued to be the bearer of bad news by saying "We don't stock this size tire and we don't have any used ones either - it'll be Tuesday to get one ordered in." CRAP! He tells us we could probably find one in Salida.......... but we'd have to hurry "Everybody closes down around noon in these parts on Saturday"........ It's 10:30 am.
We hit all 3 tire stores (one of which was a Big O) in Salida and not one of 'em had a used or new 235/45/17 tire.... most looked at us with a blank stare when we said the tire size......
So that left DJ with only one option....... Tow it home all because of a flat tire! :roflmao:
Here's the inside of the tire he'd hoped to have patched - I didn't get a pic of the lovely spare the dealership left in the trunk when DJ bought the car.
