Greetings friends, from super sunny Kuwait! How is everybody??
Sorry to be abrupt, but the wife is needing a front drive shaft for her 2000 Grand Cherokee. Figures something would break as soon as I get here! Any help would be appreciated, we just need to find a good used one so that she can get it put on. Thanks for the help in advance, and I will be checking here as often as possible, hopefully the internet stays up!

I have 2 xj fronts in the shop. Is it for a 4.0L GC?

I'm hoping it isn't the same shaft as my dad's 2000 GC. His is the CV type (not double cardan actual CV) and it is quite expensive to replace. After finding out they were around $300 rebuilt he called up Tom Woods and got a double cardan shaft made and new yokes to swap for not much more. Good luck and sorry for the possible bad news.
I do have his old shaft but it is in rough shape. If the joint could be rebuilt, it might be worth something though.

hey i can check the local pull-a-part they opened here in Clarksville, ill get back to you with what i find.

He has a Grand Cherokee with the 4.7L V8 and auto trans. I'm not sure what t-case it has in it. I don't know if that matters?

Kris, if you find a shaft at the C4C yard, I have Brian's home address. Maybe we could make a run and put it in the Jeep for him.

I will help if needed. Let me know! I have a front XJ shaft we can use but I just don't think it will fit.

i have the stock front shaft out of my 89 xj if you're interested. it just needs the front u-joint replaced. (lost the caps when replacing my t-case / it came with the front shaft)

if its cv driveshaft.. he ll need the front yoke off a dana 30 from an xj to use the ujoints..

In a WJ with the fulltime 4wd t-case, you can safely run without a front driveshaft. I know it's not the ideal option but it will keep her on the road.

If I'm not mistaken it will have the NP247 or maybe the 242 in it. Some came with CV shafts and others not, but most likely it did. My dad converted to an XJ style shaft and I can measure to see if an XJ shaft would work if the yokes are swapped out. If so it might not be too expensive of a swap.

Sorry for the delayed response, have been in sand storm conditions here for the last three days and internet has been spotty at best.
I appreciate all of the help!!! She has been driving the Jeep with the front shaft removed. She got spoiled to the All wheel drive of the NP 247. Ed is correct, it has the 4.7 V8. I believe that it is the CV style shaft due to my the shop my friend runs said it would be around $800 for the shaft. Maybe a little steep, but then again they usually use the OEM parts too.
What ever help ya'll can be would be great, she has had it kinda rough. The drivers front window regulator took a dump as well, and then she dropped and broke her cell phone. Everything goes to pot while I am gone.
Anyhow, if something is found for the help, whoever will be compensated well. I could have her meet someone with a driveshaft cause my buddy said they would install it for free if she found one. If ya'll do the labor, I am sure there would be some cookies in the compensation as well.

Again, thanks for the help, and BTW Ed, you said let you know when I get to Kuwait for the membership deal, so here it is!!

I will PM Ed with my wife's email and cell number

Out for now,
Brian

IF you can find this out maybe we can source the parts between us and one of you guys close can install it for them? I think I have a front yoke for a 231 if it will work.

What the heck happened to my post ?

anyway, as i said, im going to the C4C yard tomorrow and i will grab one if its available with the specs you gave, i have to grab a few more things for the build.

She has the original rolling around in the back of her WJ. I can't remember exactly what it looks like, I have slept since then LOL.
BTW, I did finally make it into Iraq today, and hopefully to Taji soon.

KP, thanks for the help, If you need the original, I can get her to meet you somewhere around exit 4 at the mall or something, just let me know.

Ed, thanks again for the help.

I'll be in touch in the next day or so.
