HELP MY DOG!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Ertsride1. They are doing MUCH better. And contrary to what some say Parvo is very treatable, the main thing is to keep the dog hydrated. It's rough though ro treat them hourly but it does the job. The virus only lives 7 to 10 days so treatment hourly until they improve then the times change and you get more rest yourself. It takes a total of 6 weeks until all the Parvo is ecreted so it isn't a short process even after the virus dies off. Once completely rid of it though they are immune and can be used to treat other infected dogs.

You have to be with the dog 24/7 and had my father not been retired, Dozer wouldn't of lived. How's MAX doing? crazy little wiener! :)

Update: Just thought I'd throw this out but Bear began eating baby food tonight and he's up more walking around and getting into things again..... starting to act like a three month old should. LOL, he even made the mistake of trying to run into momma, she didn't budge but he bounced off her and backabout two feet then he got up and tried to chew on her leg to which she put his head in her mouth and he gave up :) She has one heck of a big mouth!

At that point I think I would have given up as well!

Beleive me, even I have given up when she does that to me!:roflmao:
Once playing in the yard she got me down and had my throat  she turns and sits on me and then starts licking my face...... I wouldn't want to get on her bad side :eyes: cause no one could save you. I called her a mini hippo once and she growled at me.... how the heck does she know what a hippo is? Anyway she is pretty smart and knows the difference between playing and the real thing. Good thing as she could kill someone in the blink of an eye.
lol, tonight the little guy was eating his first full dinner since getting sick with the Parvo and he wouldn't let anyone near HIS bowl! Even big moma got growled at by the little guy..... she actually backed off.

That is great to hear, JS4309.

I do have an update about max he goes in for surgery on the 23rd, I found a place out of town that came highly recommended and is half the price.

His surgery started at 1k at one vet, then dropped to $750 with payments at another vet, and this new one is only charging $400.

Cornerstone Vet Clinic
Pleasant Plains, IL
217-626-2606

If anyone in the area needs anything.

Great to hear that Ertside1, too bad he needs surgery but good thing you found a place to do it. I was going to suggest that you try a local vet school at a college or university too. Sometimes they will do them pretty cheap, especially if it is a rare surgery to help the students.

The little guys doing great, he's eating soft dog food and keeping it down and drinking. Just since yesterday he gained weight... found that out when I put him outside!

OK here is the new update:

Max will be having surgery 4-16-09.

He will be picked up by his adoptive parents on 4-17-09.

The wife and I got a phone call early this morning from the Original Vet Clinic stating that they had found a couple that was willing to cover the cost of the surgery and the aftercare of Max.

Appearently this couple already have a dachshund, and would welcome Max with open arms to their family.

We thought it over most of the day and finally came to a decision to give him up to the other family.

Tonight will be our last night with our dog and we are going to my parent's house and he is going to visit the rest of his family.

My mom breeds Dachshunds and she has his Mom, Grand-Ma, Brother, Sisters, and nephews & nieces.

But of course the worst part of all is our lil 10 month old daughter that absolutely loves Max and plays with him all the time. Hopefully she is young enough that she won't get too upset about it.

I really want to thank everyone for their support....Thank You.

He will be missed by us, loved by new family, and NEVER forgotten by anyone.

Thanks,
Garrett(ErtsRide1), Kim(wife), And Madison(daughter)...and Max(My lil Buddy)

Wow, this is both sad and happy, it's good Max will have the surgery he needs and someone who can pay for it but you and your family lose a big part of the family. My only concern would be putting him into a new home right after the operation. Going to a new home is stressfull for a dog and that on top of an illness or operation just multiplies the stresses.
Good luck to everyone especialy Max!

Well I'm glad he is getting taken care of. Sorry to see you will not have him, but hopefully he will continue to be in good hands.

Yeah this morning was very hard for me but I was reassured by the vet that he is going into very good hands and they will give us pics of him and his new friend. We will definately miss him.
