Hello,

I have a somewhat of a problem...

I have to find a home for my Dog. He has a problem with his Bladder and the way that it creates and eliminates urine. His Ph levels are all out of whack and he now has crystals forming on/in his bladder. He will need surgery relatively quickly and it is in excess of $1000. He has been on medicine for a urinary tract infection for 3 weeks now and there has been no improvement what so ever...in fact the crystals have grown. He will need to be placed on a special diet after the surgery and go back for frequent check-ups. The Vet said that if we tried to place him on the diet first he might have a problem passing these crystals and then it would be Emergency Surgery.

We(the wife and I) don't have enough money laying around or on c.c.'s to come close to paying this amount of money.

He is a Wire-haired Miniature Dachshund. His name is Max. His coat is Mainly Blonde but I believe it is called Liver, but kinda started as Wild Boar(Liver undercoat w/ black-ish tips). We have a 10 Month old Daughter and he ABSOLUTELY LOVES HER. He is great(and I mean WITHOUT A DOUBT)...GREAT DOG! He has recently been Neutered(3-30-09). I am looking for a Person or Couple that would be able to take him and give him everything I can't...A Life.

sorry to hear that.

i have a beagle that had the same problem. i was feeding it purina dog chow and i have heard that some dogs have problems digesting it. dixie had to go in last year for the surgery. (my $25 dollar beagle quickly became a very expenstive beagle) she is an inside dog and she was constantly needing to go outside. when she would go she would barley trickle out. the vet over by us charged me $200 to have it removed. it was a blatter stone that was about the size of a silver dollar was about 3/8" thick and was smooth like a river stone. i shoulda kept it, it was kinda neat.
she is suppose to be on a special diet now. but i cant afford to keep her on it. somethin like 25 bux for a ten pound bag of dog food is a bit rediculus. so i put her on iams. she hasnt had any problems yet.

hope you find someone to take her. it know its hard gettin rid of a family pet.

I am happy to hear that she is doing fine...but I think max is taking a turn for the worse...

All last night he was kind-of coughing, having troubles breathing, and vomiting.

I have been racking my brain all day trying to make very difficult decisions about what to do with him and today I am even more confused.

I hate to have him suffer but I can't possibly afford the surgery.

Euthanization is a possibility but a last resort.

I don't know what to do...

Sorry to hear that, but that sounds like your best option right now.
It is hard, we know, we had to put our doberman down last year.
Good luck my friend.

X2 poor little guy. I used to have a Dachshund they are good dogs as a matter of fact i'd like to have another.

I don't know how serious you are about purchasing a pup FLEXDXJ but my Mom has a litter that we welcomed to the world about 5 weeks ago. 3 Female 2 male, i think, I can get pics and post em up. they will be ready to sell in a couple of weeks.

oh and about max I think we have found a way to get him taken care of. A friend of the family is a vet and he will let us make payments.

I am glad that we have found a resolution. I was beginning to get really upset knowing that he might not have made it too much longer.

Thanks Everyone for your support and hopefully we will see everyone on the trails later this season. We will definately keep everyone posted from his progress.

I'm not quite ready to get another dog just yet but i do want another dachshund eventually. Glad to hear you got a vet willing to help you out and you get to keep your dog on top of that!

Are you serious? You have no idea how happy that makes me! Thats the only wiener I'd laugh at as it attacks my GF!

I'm glad you have a solution.

It's always a balancing act: What the animal means to you, how much you can afford to spend, and what kind of quality of life the animal can expect after the immediate issue is addressed.

Glad to hear you got a solution! I am in the midst of a major disaster here. Last Friday I had 6 dogs, one became sick and died early Saturday morning, then Monday another died. Just before she died the vet said it is Parvo and the others need to be brought in and that it would cost up to $1500 or more for each of them!
Well I don't have that kind of money thats for sure, especialy after getting hammered by a tornado last May (which I am still cleaning up after) and a heart attack in November. So I went home and buried my 10 month old pup and then hit the internet. I found out a lot about Parvo and that ARE alternatives to the vets and although not cheap there is one that DOES work. It has an 85% success rate and so I gave it a try. I ordered 2 bottles of PARVAID. Within hours of starting the two pups on it they both showed signs of life again. In fact one was up and wagging it's tail for the first time in two days. Unfortunately he had a relapse but he's once again showing good signs tonight. I'm hoping he pulls through as he's the youngest of the two litters I have left. He also looks just like his father. The other dog Sugar was so bad Thursday morning I thought she'd be dead by Friday morning. At 3:30pm Thursday 24 hours after her first treatment she came out of the barn and ran up to me with her tail wagging! Today Sugar started eating baby food and she's playing with her parents some too. Strangely she is also keeping a close eye on her sick brother. As I write this she and her mother are both sleeping with him.
In case anyone ever has a dog with Parvo it can be treated at home, the sooner it's found the better. Keep them hydrated! Use Pedialyte or Gatorade and PARVAIDE and Vibactra Plus. Shop around and you can save a bunch of money. I got it for $21 a bottle while some wanted $67 for the same size bottle! It's made by Ambertech http://www.ambertech.com/products.php

If you plan on getting a puppy buy this BEFORE getting the dog so you have it. I didn't know it but the way the dogs got Parvo was because one of the pups got it through the vaccine! If I'd have had this stuff before hand I wouldn't have lost the two I did lose. This stuff, although all natural does the job but if using it for a sick dog be prepared for several sleepless days as it has to be administered every HOUR. Needless to say I haven't slept much the past week!

All total I have spent around $350 to treat 2 dogs and make sure the older dogs don't get any other illness due to this. Dogs over 18 months don't usually get Parvo but it does happen. Also, once a dog has had it it won't get it again, and in fact that dog can be used to save other dogs that do get it.
I'm glad Sugar made it through, she's a sweet pup (10 months old) and hopefully Bear (3 months old) makes it to! Mom is a Rotty/Pit Bull (130lbs) and dads a Sharpia/Pit Bull. The mother looks all Rotty and has the temperment of a Lab and the playfullness of a Rotty. Dad is Brindle, purple tounge and curly tail. He looks mean as hell even though he's only 54lbs. He's been fixed so no more pups.

Oh, one last thing about Parvo. For cleaning purposes use Clorox to wash everything. However Clorox won't help in the yard, it simply kills the grass and pollutes the ground. There is one thing that does work though and that is Shacklee's Basic G cleaner. It kills the Parvo virus but doesn't hurt the grass or ground as it iis another all natural product.

Glad to hear your dog's ok. I bought my fiancee' a female beagle a year ago. It has spent at least three weeks with the vet. She is currently on a constant low dose of steroids. The vet has done 4 surgeries on her to remove intestinal tract that has died. She has done at least $3000 in work done to her. The vet has only charged me $1700. My Dad thinks I'm nuts to spend that much, but she is not in pain and if I was her I'd want someone to do the best they could to keep me living a happy playful life. In all honesty she has been close to death since she was to get her second round of shot's. I had her fixed immediately as to her health I was not going to breed her. She is definately a playful and sassy puppy though.

Well Sugar is doing great, she started eating dog food today and little Bear is aalso doing better and drinking more water and getting around more. He even tried running a couple times.

Good luck with the Parvaid...

here's some better advice...

Vaccinate vaccinate vaccinate.

If you plan on buying a pup/adult dog, make sure it's had it's vaccines.

If you're a breeder, vaccinate them and roll the cost into the selling price. make sure adults are parvo negative before breeding. No excuses.

Parvo is NASTY. I've seen multiple litters of dying pups come into the hospital with their trusty bottles of parvaid. It's not a pretty death. Parvaid will boost their immune system but not kill the virus. I'm not a vet, but been working in the field for over 15 years, and yet to see an over the counter cure for it...

We have a Black Mouth Cur who suffered Parvo, and now suffers from hip dysplasia do to what we think were all the steroid shots as a pup. Sucks bigtime. We will never go back to the breeder. He's been a U of I test dog for new drugs they have out and they seem to help as long as you keep them exercising

Realy? It's the damn vaccination that gave them the Parvo to begin with!

I guess you don't see the successes with Parvaid, it saved BOTH of my pups. The older one Sugar is doing great, she started eating soft foods already and is playing again. The 3 month old has done better and began drinking broth today. He's also chasing the others around now and his tails wagging again.
Both the older dogs had all their shots on time last year, yet one died (before the Parvaid arrived). The three month olds who got it had just been vaccinated, got the Parvo from their second vaccinations. The vaccination can give Parvo to dogs no matter what the vet says. It's a live culture so in reality your giving them Parvo when you vaccinate, the HOPE is it will help them become ammune to it but in reality it can do the opposite.
So even the dogs vaccinated last August got it..... all due to the 2 3 month olds who just got their second vaccinations.

As for Parvaid, it's no guarantee, but without it they wouldn't have a chance, and most people don't read the instructions and see that you have to keep giving it for 6 weeks (twice a day after 10 days) and the dog relapses if they don't do it. They also don't follow dosages or times they dose so those dogs don't do well. Following dosages and times it's better than the vets treatment and a heck of a lot cheaper!
