Heater only works on 4?

Where is the blower motor resistor on a 94 xj and do you need to tear the dash apart to get to it?

No, you don't have to tear apart the dash.

It is under the dash, passenger side, stuck into the side of the airbox.

On my 90 I found it is easier to pull the lower dash panel and then remove the little cover under there.

About a 10 minute job at most.

So riddle me this....

Why would I only have very low fan speed and very high fan speed. I have a 94 that has the little "rocker switch". The bottom two settings are the same(lo), the 3rd is the high speed, and the top settings is once again, the lo speed.

The blower motor went out and blew the 30a fuse, so I replaced it with one from NAPA and a new fuse. The switch(on the dash)looked burned and crusty so I replaced that. The brown plug that plugs into it was melted....so I went to a junkyard and spliced a new one in. And finally after reading all the "fan speed" searches on the 'net, I went and replaced the resistor..........and nothing changed.

I'm not picky, so having only lo/high is OK with me, but i'm just curious as to WHY the resistor did not fix my problem?

Any clue's?

Was the connector on the back of the switch corroded or melted--you may need to replace it too.

Test the circuit from the back of the switch to the resistor pack, you may need to repair some harness.

Ugh....that repair doesn't seem fun at all. Especially in 16 degree weather. I'll add it to my "to do" list when it warms up a few months down the road. :)
