Heads up for those Out-of-Staters who will enjoy in a little libation in the evening

You guys go about doing things the wrong way....thats why ya have problems! You got to bring 10 cases of Brew and make sure there are at least 2 cases for the cops that stop you!

Its not a bribe, your just going to leave some on the curb as you drive away and then the cops find lost property! The police pick up the lost property and you can do whatever you damn well please...

at least thats the way Ive always conducted business in the city
its always got me far ;-)

I'd have to check (this is a case where ATF has jurisdiction) but I believe it is perfectly legal to transport adult beverages for your own PERSONAL use (and if you happen to trade some away, you are not profiting and a liquor license does not apply) - but this is something to be checked out at atf.treas.gov. I'd do it myself, but I don't drink beer, and I won't be able to make 20th - maybe 25th? Too much going on in Octember, and lack of funds - anything I don't spend on classes or those damned expensive textbooks at De Anza will likely go into the XJ for a few things I'm tossing about...

Again - the key is usually personal use. Since booze isn't at tightly restricted as other things, it shouldn't be too bad.

Bear in mind that ATF has original jurisdiction on these regs, unless the locals have their own laws (something else worth checking.) The only place I've ever known F Troop to be out trolling is major gun shows or Knob Creek - elsewise, they pretty much keep to themselves on issues like this (they get more for firearms busts like ClassIII and no-FFL than they do on booze, plus they have an institutional fear of citizens owning firearms in the first place...) As mentioned, local fuzz isn't in the business of enforcing Federal law, and cannot cite you without clearning it with the Feds in the first place, and receiving persmission to do so from the originating agency (F Troop, USSS, FBI usually.) I can't think of a cop willing to put his number out on NALEMARS for something petty like this, but I don't know for certain...

5-90

(NALEMARS - North America Law Enforcement Mutual Assistance Radio Service - used for interagency co-ordination when the Feds are involved or over "regional" areas. Not to be confused with lesser networks lik CLEMARS in California...)

can I request that PA people bring some Yuengling and I'll bring some Fat Tire, Moose Drool, Trout Slayer and some others.

Now I am not trying to promote any irresponsible behavior, but the fact of the matter is that some people are going to be doing some drinking (hopefully only) around the campfire in the evening.

At risk of being found out for the Olde Farte that I am, allow me to make a point for the benefit of non-NAXJA members (and new members) who will be attending this event: NAXJA regulations strictly prohibit consumption of alcohol during and before the trail rides. This regulation will be enforced by the safety committee, Directors in attendance, and trail leaders.

This is both a safety and a public relations issue (we don't want to play into the hands of the eco-Nazis who love to portray all off-roaders as drunken louts). Please observe the rules and don't force us to make an issue of it at the event.

Hey! Scoot over, make room for me you Olde Farte!

Eagle, your concern is definitely warranted. And my g/f who made the trip with me last year (her first time off-roading) had the same concern. Late one afternoon at SlickRock, she heard someone ask another if they wanted to go do a quick Moab Rim run. He replied, "No, I'm more interested in a beer now, that'll have to wait for tomorrow." She is much less concerned with this club's activities than with some others.

Me, I don't consume alcohol when I'm 'wheeling, working with power tools, or programming. I know what it does to me, and it doesn't help.

....I hear bringing alcohol into utah from another state is a felony....

I guess that makes me a felon. ;)
Still, bring your own beer.
You'll not like what you get here. Trust me!!!

Is BudLight considered beer?

I see that as being sort of borderline, as I have to budget at least 4 per hour just to get going.........

CRASH

Grant is right it is illeagal. It is not ok wether it's personal use or not. People travel to Wyoming from Utah to by the "good stuff" and the UHP are constantly looking for this.
I had my dad, from Montana, try to put an 18 pack in the back of my jeep as a nice reimbursment for the beer I bought him without me knowing about it. Well........when I crossed the state line a trooper who saw nothing but a lifted jeep and who admitted that he thought it would be an easy ticket stopped me. I wasn't speeding or doing anything wrong. When he walked up to my jeep the only thing he could find was the mud flaps that I had taken off in Montana because the snow and ice were causing them to hang down into the rear tires and the tires were catching them and flipping them up almost tearing off my bushwackers. Anyway, just to prove that I actually had the mud flaps I told the officer I would show him. I opened the back of the jeep and started looking for them when he said, "where did you get the Budweiser?" First of all I was shocked to see an 18 pack of Bud sitting on top of the dog kennel and second my mouth knew exactly where it came from....Good ol' pops. So's my mouth says Montana and before I realized I had just done something wrong the officer starts to read me the riot act on transporting alcohol across the state line. So......transport at your own risk. By the way I did recieve a warning ticket for my actions.

Gee Whiz

Just be discreet while transporting your party favors and ya 'should' have no problems. Cops are like most humans in regards to taking the path of least resistance and picking the low hanging fruit. Ex: ever been ticketed for a moving violation in a downpour or when it's 20*F outside? If one is in blatant violation of a local law, like mudflaps in UT, that only opens the door for the LEO to find other loose ends.

In the (8) NAXJA runs I've participated in, drivers boozing on the trail has never been a problem, and I don't expect any this time either.

I dunno if it's just a local NC ordinance, but individual possesion of more than 9 cases and 9 cans of beer, or 7l IIRC liquor (without a permit from the ABC) is considered possesion with intent to sell... more of a Tax issue than anything. A M/C club I was a member of had 13 cases of beer seized by the local PD due to violation of this. Damn Revenooers.

You're right Woody, it's all about the taxes. If anyone knows anything about taxes it's the state of Utah. Nice place to live and to do some awesome 4-wheelin' but they tax the h*** out of you.

So speaking theoretically... who would be willing to bring a 6 pack of fat tire in exchange for some ((theoretical :D) port?? Port is a drak strong bitter beer made in a place far far away across the ocean where they know how to make beer right :D
Let me know... as I like to get all my ducks in a row ahead of time. Btw, what other goodies are there along the way that others have (PM me) as I like theoretizing and calculating how much I would theoretically need to bring with me :D for some theoretical exchanges

Why would you want to give up good brew--from a place that knows how to make great brew no less--for Fat Tire? I tried it while I was in Colorado and thought it was awful. I think there's just a lot of hype regarding Fat Tire, that's all.

Oh, if I can get a six pack for you I'll certainly take that port off your hands. :)

Tom

What's the big deal with Fat Tire? I think it's pretty good and I can get it at my local Safeway, isn't it available eveywhere?

I gather that you can bring the fat tire :) Anyways... why??? well cause everyone is so raving about it.... So in any case..... I'll have a 6 pack of port waiting for you.

Kejtar

it is against the law to bring it into the state without "proclaiming" it, which means you have to pay a dollar a bottle, and they give you a cute little stamp for your bottle, so don't get cought. and if they ask if they can look inside, or if you mind them having a look. the answer is, and always should be, no. but not just no, Hell No. and you don't have to let them. now on the other hand if they have probable cause, or you do something so they can articulate that they have probable cause, they are going to look anyway.
