HD fan clutch upgrade...

It gets pretty hot out here, I won't run without a shroud.

However I was just thinking that I could move the fan back by using a washer to space between the clutch and the fan. Anyone have a reason why this won't work?

Attempted the washer. No dice. Returning it and going back to a standard XJ fan clutch.

Let it be know that thus far this clutch will not work with a 3 row radiator.

I think I can return it... but...you do work for NAPA...

If you can pick up a new one for a 94 XJ from work I'll be in Marina Del Rey tomorrow night and we could trade...

Disregard my last post about it not fitting... I are dumb :D

I had the fan on backwards. Put it on the right way and it fits like a glove.

I gotta admit--it took a lot of balls to make that post

Yes it did.

But I'd rather be the idiot so that nobody else has to do this wrong.

So no clearance problem with either the rad or shroud?

nope!

Good to know :D

I did this as well, no problem getting to or holding 210, but it never goes beyond that. Used to. The fan also doesn't spin for 30 seconds after I shut it off now :D

Not noticing much more noise due to the flowmaster and airtube.

it didn't seem that noisy to me.

I did get the severe duty one to fit mine I still have like a 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch before it hits the rad... In phx, az it get just a tad over 210 sitting at idle at lights for a lonnng time and with the a/c on itll run just a bit over 210 but compared to before thats great plus its been 107* plus lately here... IT WILL FIT WITH A 1 CORE RAD I have a 1 core with 1 3/8 tube in it and it works great it probably wont fit with anything bigger but Ill take it and be happy...
I can get pics of fitment for others if they are needed... you do have to take the upper mount off to get the thing in plus the rad needs to be leaned back to get it in and this one does pull some power but its a monster!!!
themud

I was wondering if anyone would unbolt the rad to get the Severe duty to work... So the shear size of the severe duty that close to the rad still does a great job? I hope you never break a motor mount, or that thing is gonna shred your rad fins! I am SO happy this mod is helping you guys! I have been offered lots of free help on here and other forums, and I was so excited to come up with a way to share back! It's totally a Jeep thing!

I had to remove the upper tie bar on the rad support to get mine in... everything is a bit snug with a 3 core, doing that made it easy.

Drove the Jeep to work today... wow!

Never got near 210* even with the a/c running!

I broke 220 yesterday in 90s weather and a four-minute red-light. The old one would have got 230 or more though.
My efan has always kicked in by then... but that has only even been an issue if i exit a freeway right to a stoplight. and only on scorching days. I EASILY average more than a full 5 degrees cooler since the upgrade. it usually stays pinned right below the 210 center line. Before I was praying for a way just to keep it down NEAR the center line!

Well we know the clutch is an upgrade. What about the fan itself? I think the GC fan may be different, but I didn't have time to check at the JY...

The fan that would normally be used with the clutch we are using as an upgrade. The ZJ fan.

Im just curious if the fan/clutch combo would be more of an upgrade than just the clutch :dunno:
