Harbor freight fuses don't blow.

That really sucks, I bought one of those fuse packs. It was only 2 dollars though so who cares. I have not used any yet but I am going to test them when I get home tonight. I will bring it back to them if they don't blow.

A test would be cool! Let us know at when they blow and we can let the fine bunch on the diesel site know.

Why is the wiring drawing excessive current? It sucks that the fuse didn't burn, but the bigger question is what the hale is wrong with the electrical system that the harness got anywhere close to that kind of amperage? Is that how people test their accessory installations? "Hey, lets hook up this excessively massive sound system and see if the fuse blows." Wouldn't you have worked that out before hand, installing a new circuit that can handle the load, or is it just typical for GMs to blow fuses?

And how much do quality fuses cost, and how many are you going through that you need a 120 piece fuse set? WTF does anyone need with 120 fuses? I haven't bought more than 5 in the last ten years.

I don't know...I'm confused. I guess what I get out this is: Don't buy Chinese fuses, and: Don't buy GM junk.

I was confused wondering why those guys were so weirded out. I've known that chit since I was 12yo.

Well at a normal autoparts store a pack or 5 fuses cost 3 dollars which is way expensive for a tiny piece of plastic and metal. So just to keep spares incase you need them you need 5,10,15,20,25, and 30 amp fuses. That is $18.00, or you could buy the harbor freight ones that come in a very nice organized carrying case for $3.00.
And the reason I bought these was because my master cylinder for my clutch leaked all over my fuse box, I took it all apart and bought $18.00 worth of fuses from the autoparts store to replace all the corroded nasty ones in the fuse box. I used the older blade style fuses for my 87 XJ and was at Harbor Freight a few days latter and saw theirs on sale, so I bought a mini blade fuse 120 pack for $2.99 for my 97 & 00 XJ, what a deal!
WTF is with 120 fuses??? I don't know, why would you carry spare u-joints with you or axleshafts? Would you rather buy 1 brand new axleshaft for over $200 or go to the junkyard and get 4 pairs of axleshafts for under $200? Next time I go shopping I will make sure to buy the most expensive stuff I can find and make sure my fuses are made in the USA, are yours? I will post up my findings on those fuses, I bought the mini blade type.
I am on my way to Harbor freight right now to buy offroad lights for $10.00, I love my KC 150 watt lights but they break and they are expensive to replace all the time.

Harbor Freight Fuses don't blow...

They suck :D

That's as may be, but I have a hard time with buying fuses that cheap. Granted, I use an awful lot more than most people (probably because I tend to carry spares for damn near everyone...) but anything that is a "safety device" I try to not go cheap on. It's easier for me to spend a few more bucks to get fuses that I know will work (like Buss or Littlefuse) than to get PRC stuff that I'm not sure about. I'd rather use fusible link wire - and I hate fusible link wire!

"Made in China" usually sends up red flags for me anyhow. Taiwan, Japan - even Hong Kong usually makes better stuff. But mainland China? Pass. It's not worth trying to save a couple of bucks to me. I'd probably end up spending the money later on either more extensive repairs or first aid supplies/hospital bills.

Sorry. Didn't mean to bash you, directly. Looks like you're out 2 bucks though, if the story's ligit. But, OTOH, how many fuses are there in the fuse block? Not 120.

just walk thru the junkyard with a bucket and pull every fuse out of every car you walk past. in about 45 mins you fill your bucket and walk out with it. it wont be more than 15 bux, if that.

Yeah I always get a whole bunch of fuses from the junkyard but they never have any mini blade fusses there. Thats allright for bashing me I guess I deserved it because those fuses are not fuses, they straight up do not blow!
I didn't have a real legit way of testing them but I put a 5 amp harbor freight fuse where I normaly put a 30 amp fuse and it did not blow or even get warm. I then took a 7.5amp fuse of a different brand and it blew instantly. That was more than enugh evidence for me, into the garbage they go! So I had a 5 amp harbor freight fuse hooked up inline with 2 100 watt lights with heavy wiring and the 5 amp would not even blow.

I was looking at the link in post #1 when I first chimed in. I would have mellowed my language a bit if I'd bothered to read post #2 before sticking my foot in. Sorry about the 2 bucks.

Yeah it was only two bucks, oh well. At least I got a nice fuse holder out of it! I did not use any of the fuses but I don't think my wiring is as faulty as those chevys. Regardless of if the fuse blows or not, on a newer truck there should not be any shorts. Chevy can blame it on the fuse not blowing but that new truck if made properly never should have shorted out a wire that bad. I have never had a short in any of my Jeeps, one of those being a 1987 with god knows how many miles.

Harbor Freight 120 fuse pack recall

Thread Resurection.

I was at the local Harbor Freight today and taped to the register was a recall notice for the 120 fuse pack. The text said something about how they don't work. If you hadn't figured that out already. Take them back for a refund.

[Edited to say 120 fuses.]

Also, sorry about the tripple posting. I think what happened in this case is the site did not appear to be responding so I hit stop and resubmitted. The browser info line said "Waiting for naxja.org" so I assumed it ment that the initial connection had not completed. Obviously it did.
