So ater being on back order for over 2 month I finally got my Rugged Ridge HD Crossover Steering kit today. Basically this thing replaces the weak OEM stamped steel Y-Link steering setup with some heavy duty steel tube and a knuckle to knuckle tie-rod setup. The tie-rod ends are supposed to be 1-ton truck rated too, so hopefully this thing will take a beating.
I started out doing what every good boyfriend does, makes his 8mos prego g/f turn a wrench.
Hey, atleast I loosened them first.
And I even let her use the creeper.
She's probably using her anger at me to help put some extra grunt into it.
Ok, I let her go back to handing me tools. She also helped pre-assemble the new tie-rods for me.
Old setup removed
New knuckle to knuckle tierod
And the draglink
I opted not to re-install the steering dampner as all the really do is hide any problems in your steering, especially as I am only running 32's. Once I go up to 35's I might install one, and the kit does come with the ability to do so. The other benefit of the new steering setup is its an overall more stable system and thus the dampner is even less necessary.
And yes, I did reset my toe adjustment using the patented tape-measure method.
