Low buck Eaton M90 into a Xj... (renix)
Thanks to those that got me in the ballpark and started. I've been trolling the net in general and jeep forums for a while gathering info. This is my first boost project, I wanted to experiment a bit, don't take anything here as word. This will be be my winter Rig in the near future and a new summer toy with boost will follow =
. Really wanted some more pulling power to move the sleds around, and piss an import or two off.The roots style seem to fit the bill for the torquey low reving 4L.
Finally starting this project after collecting parts over the summer. ebay is my new friend. Normal Jeep related fixes, rust, new floor! , exhaust front to back, rad swap and remove closed loop collant bottle, and a gas tank replacement all pushed this back a bit. I mention Rust?
So far my list is as follows:
Grab one M90 from early 90's ford supercoupe ,check
Reailize you should have got more parts to make life easier, dohoo !
Grab M90 intake plemium, blower cap and bypass valve, check
Grab donor XJ for parts with a 4L for later build up and rough layout, check
Makeup some kinda braket to hold it on donor XJ. , almost check ver 1 done.
Toss the Fan/Ac Bracket, now in the way. ( see below)
Install twin electric fans and control, ,almost check
Grab one Vortec FMU and install, check
Grab and install Boost gauge , check
Make up transsion plate for Jeep TB to Ford intake., check
Outatanding tasks
Figure out how the extend, and or replace Throttle cable, hmmmm. Way too short. Newer HO Xj's is longer will try that first.
Have two intercoolers to try and fit and plumb. Closer now that I have a rough sitting postion for the blower.
Tap and thread mounting plate for final mounting and fit spacers under blower.
Add Pulley to clear under the water inlet, get belt sizing and make usre it will work.
Move battery, almost check. Know it can't stay, will move to the air box side once moved to my Jeep.
Move some wiring behind the current battery location to clear intake and TB..
Played with a couple mounting locations and settled on this one for simplicity and room.
I have seen the magnassen (SP) style that is on the intake side, the stock M90 ( read cheap) is too long. Their setup uses a stubby drive in the front. It would have been a good spot, but also rule out an intercooler.
The XJ has less under room than a YJ. Thanks again to Bear for some advice. http://home.macatawa.com/~harley89/charger.html . I can't place it in the same location because of hood clearance. It has to sit down much lower to keep the steathy look. ( aka no hood scoop). I'm tossing the AC for now but might incorporate it later as I might have room depending how the blower tube route, and assuming I could put a belt on it.
Stay tuned.
