I got a ticket in the mail today for the roll.

22107- unsafe turning movement.

I have no idea why, I hydro planed and slammed on my brakes then the rear brakes locked up and and I skidded out .

My brother rolled His diesel on the interstate after swerving to avoid something, as the tow truck took the destroyed truck away, the officer walked over and handed him a failure to maintain lane ticket..

request extension, then do written declaration, if that doesn't work then request another extension before finally doing a live traffic court visit if its worth it. Obviously you shouldn't get an unsafe turning movement ticket, whatever that is, if you weren't turning

Nothin like kickin a guy in the nuts when he's down.

... Or in your case Jon, "upside down"

Ya I was just joking about paying 750$ for the tow, about 270$ in various parts(windshield, stabilizer, calipers, brake pads, rear view mirror) , I am not even going to include the motor craft Nomad Racing seat and the harness , and also whatever the medical bills end up being ( I have killer insurance, but I am sure it still will not be cheap even then) and then I get the mail today and open this.

Funny side note - I work at a desk job where no one else wheels or can even change their own oil or brakes - One woman was saying "well thats your problem, those big tires are too tall" I was like no, but adding RAM assist with toe out, a bad leaf bushing, air in the rear brake lines, tie rod roll from the ram assist, and the rear brakes locking up on wet pavement while hydro planing will do it.

Dang! You need to fight that ticket. It was a accident and thats all.
follow hoopers advice, write a written decleration asap. You can even
include pics with that. Wait and see what they send back. Then go from there.

Here, where snow and ice are common, going off the road will get you a driving too fast for conditions ticket. If you hydroplaned, you were driving too fast for conditions.

while i hate seeing jeepers getting harrased by cops for bogus stuff, you chose to drive your rig with known steering issues and faulty parts which contributed to your crash. your lucky you didnt kill anybody cuz you wouldnt have a leg to stand on in court. im glad your ok and nobody else got hurt but people in general need to think twice about driving stuff thats not working right or scabbed together fab work and driving it on the road when you know its screwed up. your taking a huge risk with something bad happening and you dont want to have to go to court because you got in a wreck and hurt someone because you drove a rig that has broken crap that doesnt work right when it could have been avoided by fixing the problem. that being said anytime you get in a wreck nowdays you can guarantee your going to get some kind of ticket for unsafe turn or speed ect.

I am so thankful no one was hurt. You have no idea. There were no known issues or faulty parts , only quality parts like PSC and ruffstuff , and the rig is not any more different than 90% of the modded XJ's on the road running ruffstuff steering and PSC ram. It was more of the brakes locking up on an emergency maneuver more than anything.

I have had my brakes lock up on my honda once, on a wet day, and went off a road down a hill about 15 feet. In my jeep that would have been a sure rollover, Stuff happens and you cant plan on it. Thing drove fine on the freeway to PC road. High COG makes everything worse.

There were no broken parts and most everything on my steering is brand new, as well as the entire braking system, but brand new parts have been known to fail (auto zone calipers perhaps?).

As far as I was concerned the thing was in good shape and driving fine, with quality parts, in fine shape, up until PC road about 2 turns in on a wet day.

sorry i must have miss understood your admission of guilt from your previous post. not trying to single anyone out, just pointing out to everyone to think a little before driving there rigs that are not 100%. i work for a big company and drive class a rigs every day and i can tell you all that when things go wrong everyone looks for that one little thing that puts all the blame on the driver and leaves you with no leg to stand on. its a lesson most people learn the hard way too late. glad your ok and hope you get your rig fixed soon.

I still think the rear brakes locking up and whipping the rear end around was the actual cause of the roll since that is what got me sideways at a reasonable speed.

Yes that was all found after the crash, very retroactive approach, just trying to figure out what could have made it all happen. Its all speculation since it happened extremely fast and I have test driven the rig a bunch in the last few weeks.

I was pointing out how some slight toe out, with RAM assist, which added some tie rod roll, makes rear brakes locking up seriously dangerous instead of just dangerous. I don't think I am stressing the rear brakes enough here. Ive had to make serious emergency stops before and never had the rear end kick out. this was the first time ever. I have had to come to an instant stop a couple of times going to work at 55moh and never had the rear whip out

There are plenty of rigs out there with tie rod roll, RAM assist, worn bushings, the leaf bushing was only slightly melted . these are all things that are sort of normal for most broke and lazy XJ owners. I think I am better than most as far as maintenance.

and this it what scares me the most and proves my point. just because there are plenty of rigs out there like that doesnt make it right, nor would that excuse fly with any cop or judge. i can only hope people can appreciate the point im trying to make here. please inspect your rigs and dont drive em if you cant keep them fixed up properly. its just my own opinion and everyone has there own but rigs with ram assist should not be driven on the street. they are not even recommended to be run on the street by their manufacturers.
