Got a no front plate ticket today

apparently there was no crime in Los Angeles today, because I'd like to think the LAPD has better things to do. :laugh2:

2 bike cops in West LA on Bundy just south of the 10 fwy were just sitting there flagging over cars with no front plate, my Jeep happened to be one of them.

Just wanted to give a warning, don't know if they'll be there more this week.

Now, what to do for the fix it ticket? I've got an aftermarket front bumper, no plate mount. Zip ties are out, I heard they don't accept that as a fix now. Is it possible to weld the plate to the bumper?

its an aluminum plate. good luck welding aluminum to steel...
you can zip tie it thru the grill. or drill 2 holes in the bumper and screw em down with a sheet metal screw.
I've been lucky, cops have had a tendancy to let me go with verbal warnings. no rear plate... no front plate. "i don't even have a clue as to the no doors!" one cop said.

kinda figured it couldnt be welded, but figured it would be pretty funny to do. here officer, no way i could ever take it off now.

mine has been zip tied thru the grill for 3 years now, i just have to change the zipties after a year or so they tend to snap when you run into stuff :D

Got a winch with a roller fairlead?

That's two pieces of flat stock with four mag light clips bolted to it, they clip perfectly to yoru standard roller faillead.

IF you don't mind drilling the plate you don't need the flast stock, just bolt the clips directly to the plate with new holes (since I have a fancy plate I didn't want to do that).

why not get a metal plate holder that you can weld off the side of the bumper? this way the plat can slide in and out.

Glue magnets on the plate.

I got a ticket for no plate on my stocker YJ when I took off the front plate overnight because it was hanging off. I took the plate off when I got back from work at 1030PM and got the ticket at 130AM. I counted at least 15 cars on the same street that had no plates on the front and, guess what, no ticket. My, not so legal, YJ drove from Reno to SoCal with NO plates and was stopped only once and let go. I think the dept is either broke or bored.

You know its the "Law" to have the front plate installed in California... I imagine I'll get flamed for this.. But I just drilled two hole in the bumper for the plate to attach to...

I don't care about running a front plate on my XJ (it doesn't look good enough to worry about, haha). My street car though I run NO plates = no front and paper dealer plate on rear. I get stopped and they say "I stopped you for no front plate but I see you just bought it" ( bought it 3 years ago, haha) but I have only been stopped for that once.

I've never got a ticket for no front plate(not required) or no cat, or no exhaust, or no emisions, or tires sticking 12 inches outside the fenders, or no fender flares, or no doors, or no seatbelts, or no mudflaps, or bumpers being too high, or no turn signals, or I'm sure you get the point. I love Kansas...

I did put a front plate holder on my XJ to hold my IH plate. I just used the front plate holder that came with one of my other cars and ran one bolt through the center of it. Any parts store should have all kinds of options, just find one that you like and bolt it up. Sucks about the ticket, at least it's a fix it ticket right?

I got pulled over in Irvine a couple weeks ago for the same thing, my excuse was, UH, I have a winch! they also tried to give me a hard time about NO LIGHT COVERS on my KC lights... but I thwarted that also

In the past I have found by putting a " Support Your Local Police " license plate frame on the rear plate has helped me from getting ticky tack tickets. I know I might get flamed for being a kiss ass, but a little honor and respect goes a long way. Just something to think about.

I get looks when i have no doors on but ive never had a problem with any of the cops, actually the other day in SD a cop gave me "the nod" when he pulled up next to me then took off on the green... It just depends on how much of a bitch the cops feel like being that day. As for the plate, I drilled 4 holes and riveted my plate down dont think that coming off haha

I'm sure you don't speed or anything either.

I really don't feel like spending any money on this.
