I was looking for a good welding class either around denver or in fort collins. I have never welded before, but i need to help my dad build some shelves, and he said he would buy a welder if i learned how. So, i am way stoked, but i would like to take some classes, to learn the basics. The shelves will be a good first project becasue it is basically just tack welding. Or if anyone around here would be willing to teach me for a decent price, but with everyones schedules and what not, im not sure if that is the best idea
Thanks

Try Front Range Community College. They have a variety of shop classes, and provide the equipment. You get to test drive different welders so you can make a better choice when it comes time to buy.

I don't teach welding, but the guy next door to my shop is one of the best welders I have seen. He occasionally will teach, $50/hr, 3 hr min. His TiG welding is some of the best I've seen.

PM me if you want more info

Last year I bought a "Student Training Package" from Miller. www.millerwelds.com/education/tools/#training

It has instructional manuals for the various popular arc welding processes: MIG (GMAW) TIG (GTAW) and Stick (SMAW) along with other reference material/calculators, and a catalog... IMHO well worth the $25 shipped. A great primer for the total beginner and for someone like me... exposed/trained many moons ago, but haven't touched any arc equip. in a long time.
